Peaceful people are usually merely harmless, since peace is a decision only reserved for those with power.
Unknown source, and probably somewhat paraphrased, too. |

TANSTAAFL - another Heinlein word, I think by the same character as in #2163, which I suspect was Jubal Harshaw.

But the analogy doesn't work for me, at all. There is such a thing as free lunch. Charity and hospitality have always been part of human society. And while the former might be largely institutionalised and the latter on the decline, they definitely still exist. I guess what most people really want to say when they use that phrase is sth like: "Please do look the gift horse in the mouth!" Being free doesn't necessarily mean there's no strings attached. |

“Women hold up half the sky” (Mao Tsedong)
I could say I found the only quote from Mao that is worth to post, here. But it is (of course) more complicated. This sums up about all my reactions to the daily flux of -) murder stories from France -) assumed machismo driven retarded behavior -) “habit” that they use to call “tradition” or worse which restrains the human brain and conscience. Did I explain already, that „Mao” was the very first word that I learned to write.., at age 4 or so (probably rather MAO)? It is true! One of my then long-haired brothers taught me, not without mentioning that it can serve to write „Mama“, „Oma” (Grandma), ”Omo” (a laundry detergent; the picture shows Omo and two men from the Omo) and, most important... “Maoam” (a delicious, soft candy). strstr and strcat, in short. |
