Question List your monitor size.

Working on a website and wondering what monitor size and resolution people use.

SXGA 5:4 1280 x 1024
It's from the Hanns-G office range and rotatable into portrait mode — ideal for word-processing (so long as you have OpenOffice and not LibreOffice, that is).

Dell Ultrasharp UW3415 (?) - 34" at 3440x1440. Would not buy this brand again because it is super fussy about the DP connection but the picture is great.

... and then there are the various display sizes I use in my VMs, frequently 1440x900.

What sort of website, why do you think only (desktop) computers are relevant?

I don't think pixels are all that relevant, except for media queries; when I design web, all dimensions are in em or rem - assuming that the user's font size and zoom choices are better hints at actual screen size.
And then there's virtual pixels...

I see you think you're a mind reader amongst your other many talents.

/* On smaller screens, decrease text size */
@media only screen and (max-width: 300px) {
.prev, .next,.text {font-size: 11px}
}

You'll be really hard pressed to find a device width less or equal 300 pixels, even virtual.

My CSS is mobile first, with breakpoints at 480px, 768px and 1024px.
Phones usually use virtual pixels, so it works as expected even though my phone is 1080px wide, portrait mode.

Everything else is relative.

The font-size - I set the <body> to 100%, and the rest goes from there. So that's all relative. No pixels at all.

https://notabug.org/ohnonot/tagblog/.../css/style.css (and my blog to see it in action)

It pays to read up on this, web designers are making a whole science out of it. Though at some point you just have to stop and decide.

That is only the first of several @media queries. I thought it was enough to get the idea across.

Main point is you should try not to make assumptions, better to ask first.

8bit

Edit: I wanted to come back and offer a smiley face and thanks for the link to your script, least this get too heavy.

1920 x 1080 and 1280 x 1024, I don't know what the obnoxious little android devices are set at. A notebook at 1366 x 768.

What do you have the dpi set at so that you can see a text file?

Edit:
Oh that's a 43 inch screen. Can you see that at 96 dpi?

I don't know enough about video modes to vote! My Xorg log says
Code:
[ 50.240] (II) intel(0): switch to mode 1024x768@60.0 on VGA1 using pipe 0, position (0, 0), rotation normal, reflection none
[    50.253] (II) intel(0): Setting screen physical size to 270 x 203
What does that make it?
