What's the problem? The link shows that this means disk space, not memory. Surely any modern computer has 100 GB or so on its hard drive?

Not really a problem, disk space is cheap and modern OS's with a "pretty" user experience require a lot of UI elements and disk space. I was just being sarcastic about windows being bloated, although my dig was at its memory inefficiency and not disk space usage. I didn't state that though...

Could be tested in FreeDOS perhaps, but I've no experience of it personally.

I recently installed win7-pro-64-bit-sp1 (oem version) and it used 35 gigs. It is suppose to use 20 gigs and 35 with the "xp-mode," but this was without "xp-mode." I looked for it, but it wasn't to be found anywhere. I was not impressed.

No. I won't try and talk a ignorant computer user who has no interest in Linux and thinks MacOS is their golden meal ticket in their clueless life. I don't argue with ignorance or preconceived expectations.

Just like I won't talk a car driver into mounting my motorcycle and drive it down the road. Hence why I mention spend some money, honey.

Lots of netbooks come with small ssd or mmc drives hazel. Like my chromebook that googleos expired, EOL, you get the idea.

On a completely different note (warning, whining ahead), why on earth does the idiotic windows 10 task bar turn an app button orange and keep it orange, regardless of whether the button actually needs "attention". I know they do it because the app needs "attention", but 9 times out of 10, it does not, yet the button remains orange until you click on it, only to find that the click just made the orange go away and the app doesn't need anything.

This just reinforces to me that the idiots on the UI/UX team at microsoft have absolutely no idea what they are doing, or they operate in a vacuum. Tons of little UI details I can rip apart on this OS but who has the time...:)

My Harley clutches are easier to change than my BMW clutches.
I used 2 cylinder bikes as a fair comparison.

Not like the Kawasaki Concours with 4 cylinders, fuel injection, abs brakes, that I have on bike lift requiring 4 carb kits. I also have spent a week on a bmw throttle cable change . Only a BMW owner knowledgeable with this
would understand.

That's funny, I like the analogy! I have been riding and wrenching on Harley's for nearly 40 years, my own, always have done my own maintenance. I am not enamored at all with my current bike and would prefer just to set it on fire but not going to do that...'07 was a horrible year and wish I wouldn't have bought it. Ironically enough I love the BMW R 1200 RT and if I rode much any more, I'd trade my '07 Electraglide boat anchor in for one. I fear I'd get bored though - the Harley sound is something I would miss.

Well, IT is a huge part of my life so I tend to be picky about things. I have been using Linux and FreeBSD for a very long time and although neither is perfect, at least we as open source users have choice. Obviously we have none when it comes to commercial, close source products. I guess I just whine because when you have to pay for something, you expect it to be a decent product. For me, windows have NEVER been a decent product.

I started a new job three weeks ago. After one week of training, they "turned me loose" to do the work myself, ask questions when I needed, etc.

The VERY FIRST NIGHT after training was done, the stinking Windows 10 computer wouldn't let me clock out. In fact, it responded to my ID entry by shutting down! WTF? Fine, I went to another terminal. Same thing.

That was two weeks ago. It happened again tonight.

Is it just me, or does Windows 10 encourage sloppy enterprise sysadmin practices? My money's on the latter.

What a victory, right?

There is a use case for the WSL which is not even irrelevant: I can finally run deadpixi's Sam as my Windows text editor. But to me, it always lacked native path rewriting. Having to use /mnt/c/... is not desirable. I hope they'll change that.

Not really, just shows M$'s true intentions, and that's their own best interests.

Why am I going to pay for Windows to get Linux, when I can just download a distro directly, then install it on bare-metal ? It's a false economy to buy a copy of Windows and/or to run Linux from WSL, when I can just do a bare-metal install of a Linux distro without Windows. But interesting read of M$'s rip off of Linux all the same, and I still have no use case for Windows or WSL...

Still spreading the old lies about a "rip-off"? Does Linsux still fail to have its own advantages so you need to lie about Windows to make it look less bad?
