And how would people who do not use the current version of Windows (because they do not like it or prefer something else) possibly know if a future version of Windows will be better than the systems they currently use and prefer? That is like asking rugby players if they believe football will be better than rugby five years in the future.

According to me and my testing, Windows 10 seems a bit better than windows 8 however, it's all up to you to your personal liking, easiness, smooth etc. You can always have dual boot or use it in your Virtual Machine. And another thing depends which Linux distro you're interested in.

Anyways Good-luck with that

Windows 10
Slackware 14.1
Windows loses.

You, sir, are clearly wrong... blinded by Bob. Slackware does not have Notepad.exe... and the registry.... and disk fragmentation.... and viruses... and Internet explorer. How on earth can it be better than Windows?!

I wonder whether the op is a 10-year-old boy or 30-year-old troll:)

Which is better largely depends on your use cases and your style of usage. I personally will stick to Windows 7 for the cases where I need a Windows installation as long as possible, but how you do handle it is totally up to you.
Your best bet is to actually try it, the Windows 10 Technical Preview is available for free, so that you can evaluate it for yourself.

Windows has the most desktop share. It's for masses. Almost every app/ hardwire has support for Windows not for Linux.
Winblows is for masses.

While Linux is for people who want have control of their pc's or who want to play with pc's hardware and it's software.
While there are discussions about Linux is next for desktops but not yet.

Even Ubuntu has not changed that.

And for virus/trojans/malware even a inadequately secured linux system will fall prey!

Win7 will go eol soon enough - see here. Win8 is a bucket of puss.

Win10 looks better, although I haven't updated it for a few weeks. I'll probably use it for Corporate customers that demand Windoze next year.
I see no imperative to abandon Linux.

Windows 10 better than Linux?

I am willing to give Windows a try, as soon as they offer me a copy cheaper than Debian.

January 14, 2020 -- that's plenty more time than almost any Linux distro has support for, actually.

Randicus Draco Albus 12-17-2014 06:47 AM

Windows 8 was only recently released and people are discussing Windows 10? What happened to Windows 9? At least I believe Window 8 was on this machine when I bought it last year, but since I do not pay attention to Windows development, I could be wrong.

Head_on_a_Stick 12-17-2014 07:17 AM

I'm actually posting this from Windows 10 and I can assure you that GNU/Linux is far superior...

My CPU idles at ~50% while doing nothing, the desktop boots to 1.2GiB used (!) and it runs so slowly it beggars belief.

And it's ugly and very difficult to customise.

For example, I had to download a third-party program (which is almost certainly malware in disguise) just to set the toolbar to fully-opaque.

Oh, and the battery life seems to be about 50% less, which is a surprise.

Seriously?! You HAVE BEEN USING it. You posted that post from Ubuntu Linux.

Sorry mate, but unless you start posting some reasonable questions I'm considering you as as either a troll or a kid who probably is too young to be using a computer.

robmark 12-17-2014 08:12 AM

sorry I meant how to use the office side of linux

Head_on_a_Stick 12-17-2014 08:14 AM

In fairness to the OP, he could be posting that from the live environment...

@OP: just select the defaults from the install menu options -- as long as it recognises your Windows installation (it will tell you), you can safely install it and choose either OS from the boot menu.

I've just spent the last half hour trolling the Windows support forums with pro-Linux posts so I can throw no stones here :D

EDIT: Install LibreOffice -- it's great (it should be in the Software Centre, it you're using *buntu).
