Jesus said: The kingdom of God is within you” (Luke 17:21, KJV)

Linux with old PC greatly helps in exploring this introvert, intangible aspect of life. It is quite deep. Thank you Lord for this blessing and all other blessings that you have filled my life with, please use me to do your will as you see fit. Bless all others also here, even more than you have blessed me so that they can do your will also on this Earth.

The above holds so true in the Linux world even, have to be strong and persistent , weather the storms to survive in the Linux world. Linux is a narrow gate, specially with old PC but eventually well worth it.

What do you have, Type 1 or Type 2? If it's Type 2, it's mainly diet-related although a sedentary lifestyle doesn't exactly help. Eating healthier, cooking for yourself and no fast food/junk food is the way to go. If it's Type 1, that's just bad luck.

Type 2, true what you said.

Yes, so we see the corporate world squeezing in on Linux in steady steps and piece by piece. At this rate, what will be the outcome of these efforts ? What will be the future of Linux long term ? These are questions that all in Linux community face.

Linux will continue to survive at the lower levels as it leaves still a lot to tinker with. Some of the older stuff that is no longer a money maker, not of strategic interest will be given away to general public much down the road like FreeDOS is now. Used things will always be discarded, software or hardware.

Big mistake of matmroy with old PCs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cs8CwFcZdTc

Started watching a bit about old PCs today.
I checked on my oil paintings today, it is almost two weeks today since I painted them and will need another more week or so to dry fully it appears. The smaller painting is ok, the larger one I had placed it in a large plastic box, sooner after I opened it I felt light headed for a little while, so took some rest. This is odd as I used linseed oil only. Will reflect a bit more on this.

Came across this link:
https://www.poison.org/articles/2013...for-indoor-use

Was inspired to do another such painting early morning today, this time I felt much better.
Came out similar to as before. The Blues are dry and the red is just not there, it is more rose colored.
So quite a limitation, good to know the limitations of this oil paints set. I got it for free, so this is
a plus.

On a different note:
1. Cleaned the sideways alligned CPU fan of the recent C2D PC find.

2. Plugged in the 60 Gb HD properly inside the Dell PC with 256Mb ram, it is working ok now.
Feels blissful. Just have an old Puppy Slacko on it and will use it offline mostly.

3. Backed up USB drive files to the above Dell PC with 256 Mb Ram.

If I can find peace of mind, contentment and happiness with old PC, old OSes and old software, then this
actually becomes priceless.

Thanks for this post. This is so very true. There are few others reporting about oil paints affecting their health, they are considered toxic and can't be disposed off as normal, now I see this. I was only focusing on the linseed oil, didn't think about all the substances in the pigments and how they might change while drying. I also assumed this will not happen to me I guess, too bad well it did happen. Glad it was not much worse, specially very glad since I have pet birds that have very delicate lungs. For this time, I will open the box with this oil painting every few days closer to outdoors, so that there is not such a strong buildup of gases and to release them outdoors safely. In all the videos etc., I saw about oil paints no one else says these things but each environment is different.

Edited to add:
This is why I prefer dry media more like crayons, color pencils, conte crayons, charcoal and even just graphite. Don't care for markers. Helps to keep things simple and safe, specially in Canadian winter best to avoid unwanted drama.

Edited to add yet again:
I avoided all synthetic stuffs. Someone gave me a nice bottle of used Modge Podge Last week,
the moment I opened it to verify indoors, the synthetic smell quickly started filling indoors.
So I closed it. Already, I know not to use soft pastels around my parrots. I thought linseed
oil being natural is ok to use, specially since I have done smaller pieces in the past. There
is always a new learning experience, better be careful than sorry.

Nothing wrong with oil paints, outside or in well ventilated areas. Learn your materials and treat them with respect, even charcoal can be dangerous. Remember to clean or destroy old oil rags, as they can spontaneously combust when stored. And keep in mind that a rattle snake bite is also natural! Natural does not mean safe or good for you!

Thanks again for your comments.

I am quite careful with Chemicals. I did read the fact that the rag with linseed oil can catch fire on its own.
So did follow this precaution. I used very little linseed oil for painting, like less than 5 mls. I didn't feel anything even when I opened the bottle of linseed oil that I have. There are reactions happening as the paint dries that also generate
some gases, this is the issue. For small painting this was not significant. However, it is an issue with a larger painting.
I just have to accept the fact that I don't have enough ventilation to do oil paints in winter totally indoors.
I have to expose them to outsides every few days to release the gases built up periodically.

Charcoal is very powdery and not good to use with poor ventilation in winter indoors. For dry media, I will mostly use crayons and color pencils, might move to conte crayons sometimes at the max.

Not really. My son is an artist, and I taught Physics and Chemistry secondary field. The precautions and risk factors become more meaningful when you have the lives and health of 30 to 120 naive (indestructible / "know everything") teenagers on your hands every year. Even more when your own is one of them.

I took FAR more risks on my own than I was willing to watch the kids take!

There is a psychological slip that happened. The word paint means flowers, nature, beauty etc., for me. So it is easy to
loose train of thought, get carried away and forget that paint can be toxic also.

Added a more recent slacko on it, doesn't seem much different but for the firefox browser, Dillo is not available in the
packages. Plan to try LFS and other distros on this slowly.
All the 4 USB slots in the front don't work, next time I open this must replug the mobo connection for these.
Also, need to install on this the VirtualBox and eBooks reader software that also converts to different formats.

Freedos Install trial
Tried to install Freedos 1.2 on this PC, it didn't recognize the partitions eventho I had a primary DOS partition,
so unwilling to wipe out this HD, stopped the install. Tried the install on another C2D very old with just 512Mb Ram,
installer gave insufficient memory error and the install stopped. There were few other errors also. Appears it is
best to use FreeDos in VM. Use DosBox for most dosgames, this is safer.

rvijay 11-12-2018 06:46 AM

Happy Updates:

1. Pleased to share that the first medium sized oil painting I worked has dried ok now. It looks a lot better now also that it
is done.

2. Got FreeDOS 1.2 installed on an old P4 PC, it gives out a lot of warnings but does not bite as bad. Just the base is installed, not all the Utilities, games etc., Those remain on the CD are zipped and left for the user to install. Have to take my time to get familiar with all the programs there, at least the major kinds. Will progress with this slowly and steadily,
no rush for now. Even if I finish learning this in one or two weeks, this will be good.

Tried FreeDOS today for long, these are my first impressions with it:
1. it is fat partition, so less safe online. I wouldn't go online with it.
2. It doesn't come with spreadsheet program.
3. Some of the stuffs it came with don't work (Don't wish to name those programs, don't recall now)
4. It says it has emulator but there are none on the CD
5. I went to all directories and tried all programs pretty much that were installed
6. dosbox is much better for gaming
7.the gui s it came with are pathetic
8. it boasts a lot, but offers very little
9. it is good for those into such IT stuffs
10. The games I tried are Bolitaire and Liquiwar, in Bolitaire
unable to figure out how to select a group of cards, in liquiwar
there are no instructions. The Tetris clone was ok.
11. I installed all the programs that were to install on CD, the FDIMPLES is super
helpful. Only approx. 1Gig is needed to install all in the FreeDos CD.
12. Perhaps with time I might learn to appreciate and use it better.

FreeDos Boots fast, so encouraged I made these notes earlier for learning it.

If someone is into embedded software or legacy software, then FreeDOS might be good. It is also good for those into retro IT stuffs and retro IT programming.

Personally, I like retro IT that is a bit more useful to me in my present situation, this is just me. So CLI linux is my choice for this. Who knows, perhaps in future I might find a need, use for FreeDos. For now, for all those who work with and enjoy FreeDos my best wishes.

Basically FreeDOS has two uses, for those that still need DOS, & for the inquisitive. :)

Most old DOS programs will run on it, you can find lots of old programs online.

When I was using it, I used it as a music player in the main, (on an ancient laptop that struggled with Linux), & for that it was good - booted & was playing in seconds. ;)

I also had an office suite on it, but didn't use it much.

This video really made my day, please view and share with others also:
Do all Pets go to Heaven?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltTqMezsciM

All thru my life I felt deep pulls of love that seemed so strange, many times I thought it was a woman. However, much
later on in life I realized my feelings of love and affection are for other non human living beings more. This I also
felt was abnormal love. However, as per video above caring for other non human living beings is normal and this is how
the Earth itself was designed. This is so good to know indeed, made me very happy.

These days for the past 3 weeks or so a very young pigeon comes to my balcony along with other adult pigeons. This baby
pigeon has a beak that is very soft and is unable to coo, still screams like a mouse. He (assuming this is a he) even flew
into my apt. sometimes via the back door window that I had opened up for ventilation. He checked out my apt. and then was uncomfortable after some time, so I helped him outsides. Later when he came indoors and begged, I gave him a few more small pieces of biscuits, few more seeds etc., Always after eating, he needed to be helped out as he couldn't fly high enough
to escape. Once he even came inside my bedroom, spent some time on the floor watching me, guess he was curious. Later on I helped him to fly away again. Now in a few more weeks or so, he will be an adult, more grown and more independent. The winter has also arriving here with a bang. Hope he grows up fully to adult hood and starts his own family.

If you like old computers, old software intensely, then reflect and see if you like non human living beings also, if you do then care for them where possible. This is a priceless experience. As I have mentioned here before I even chat with a person who helped rescue a beached whale and succeeded in that effort. There are lots of videos online about folks helping, rescuing other critters.

Take this test and see what you score, it is a very interesting test:

Already I feel that IT is getting more powerful that what humanity needs. This is just my feeling. Feels like we are
left running after a car in motion, with time the car will get faster.

Considering this, going retro to enjoy the more peaceful times in past seems good. :)

I am the Master of excuses, if there is an excuse, I have given it, if there is a way to generate a new excuse I will be among the first to generate and use that excuse it appears. This is as fake as it gets, have to be sincere with myself if I need to get results. Perhaps I might even get a PhD and world record for giving excuses if there was one.

Well this video shows how to install arch in 10 minutes.

Hoping others can learn from this. By the way, I still have many excuses in my mind and have not tried Arch install.

Here is another advice from experience, if you have a room with lots of old computers, related parts, and an official such as city inspector, fireman, police comes to your apt., asks you to open the door, try and ensure they don't have an experience like this one:

Raiders of the Lost Ark - The opening of the Ark - The LORD's vengeance!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0APF3SO9tqE

If they get that experience, then the outcome will not be a good one, might even make it to local media. So try to avoid such an experience at all costs.

rvijay 11-27-2018 05:15 AM

Using and old computer with Linux, one can fall very easily to pornography. However, this is not of the Lord, waste of time and very evil.

Testimony of James Tour
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNGLZvtRoiU

Think of all the various colors and patterns one sees in the lab, use these with paints to do abstract painting, many good
pieces of art can be produced that are healing. As opposed to pornography, call this colorography perhaps ? This serves
better purpose in Lord's kingdom. Art Therapy is a very big field. Thank You Jesus.

I will share my experience here with respect to porn. I have read a lot about how to overcome sexual addiction, watched related videos. I have supported others against it even on and off. Came clean for sometime and then got pulled in again. It is being promoted really intensely, while true romance as of the Lord is being slowly pushed aside.

Someone I know in real life, prayed for me recently it appears, after that I haven't had a need to see it, realize it is dirty, evil and spend porn time on praying for those into porn. Now this person is not Christian I think but I still deeply thank this person for the prayers and super strong cleansing.

Dear Lord: Please send your ministers and angels to bring others into pornography out of it, so that they can do your will on this earth. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

People who watch pornography are beyond pathetic. Can't they even masturbate without someone to help them? When I was growing up, back in the 50s, we made our own entertainment.

I had a few challenging days, baby pigeon was forced to leave nest early, came to my balcony for one month, was inside my apt to sleep for last week but is finally going more independent. This is a relief as it is against City laws, draws in inspectors and then they see my old PC collection.

Agreed and am glad I confessed my weakness.

My second abstract oil painting of the medium size has dried ok, took a month approx.
I am gonna give it to this person who very likely helped me.
This person appreciates my art.
(Sorry again don't feel like taking any pictures.)

If the IT world is reversed, I will be somewhere on top if not at the topmost, interesting to think about. If it happens, folks like Bill Gates will be left wondering what suddenly happened.

Sheeshh what a day indeed. It a bit dark and dreary here, so I tried to get some rest. My parrot speaks my mother tounge. Got loud and woke me up. Later threw a few things on my face. Whewww. Joy o joy. I am trying to act like I am using my old PC but not working with my parrot so far.

I will remember this good post.

The best related verse I like is:
2 Peter 2:9
King James Bible
The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished.

Haven't done any art in 3 weeks almost. Today I prayed to Lord to stay with me and support me to start doing art again.
Specially the oil paintings of size 14 inches x 18 inches I can do only one a month, then need to let it dry inside
a plastic box. Soon after I prayed, I noticed that the linseed oil I used last time had spilled and quickly cleaned it up,
this is a fire hazard eventho I use just like 3 mls or so each time. Then I added some unused linseed oil to another
vial and did my 3rs oil painting of this size, this time it was faster and a lot more efficient, took from 9 pm to 10 pm.
Used more darker colors, this is also an abstract painting and will be nice to see on a very hot day in summer. It is set out for drying in the plastic container.

I also pray to Lord now to lead me to more space to do bigger oil paintings.

Praise The Lord.

Someone just mentioned Xiphos a Bible related software for Linux. It is also available for DL and install in the puppy linux repositories. http://xiphos.org/

God Bless this man and his family for this mention.

That is quite some article. I am so glad that I can live like a cave man if needed and do art with just charcoal even.

We can use old computer with Linux to move towards more human values and avoid, slow down the advances in tech that are affecting society strongly.

Edited to add:
Someone alerted me that Babies like to play with stuffs in general and they will cry if anything
they are playing with is taken away in general. But I am seeing more parents give cell phone etc.,
to babies. what if the baby drops the phone and it is damaged ? Why not just give a normal toy instead of a cell phone ?

If I use a Core2Duo PC, feels like I am flying a Mig in an airshow, so it is back to P4 for me.

That pigeon is back indoors to sleep quietly, husssh, it is fine with me.

Let us try and replace the porn that is so much on net with romanceography in our minds, this is more nice and clean.
I will try to use old PC to do work of Lord.

Old Computer Story.
Short Story Title: Sweet Compromise

So this story basically starts with our main character Raju. He is a very hardworking IT guy, lives in Montreal, Canada, eats Curd rice for lunch daily with lemon pickle. He has had to work long hours, learn many things to keep his career going, hence he is still single in his mid 40s and feels lonely also. Raju is not into booze, drugs, the bar scene or picking up girls for a one night stand etc., He just wants someone to go on a walk with sometimes, a coffee and chat. However, this proved to be very hard for Raju. By the way Raju is also good at the command line and likes old computer for his personal use.

Raju goes to see a therapist for his loneliness, his primary care doctor referred him to this therapist. Unfortunately, things don't work out with this therapist as this therapist is a strong windows user. So, Raju desperately starts his search for a therapist who also uses Linux and is somewhat at least open to the idea of old computers. Just this search itself leads Raju to meet many interesting characters.

Finally, after much efforts he meets a therapist called Dr. Tremblay. In his young age, Dr. Tremblay wanted to get into IT but that objective didn't pan out. However, he did go on to become a therapist and has a wonderful Career. Dr. Tremblay and his family love to tinker with old computers and Linux together on weekends etc., for fun.

After a few sessions with Raju, Dr. Tremblay comes to the conclusion that it will be almost next to impossible for Raju to find the soul mate he wants. So he wants to give Raju a solution in the mean time. Dr. Tremblay suggests that Raju name his latest old PC with arch linux installed as Emelie mon amour. He also suggests that Raju put red lip stick on this computer case. When Raju feels lonely, he can talk to his Emelie and even kiss for some warm feelings.

Raju is very excited with this suggestion, he implements it and it makes him very happy. Emelie changes Raju's life totally. Even his coworkers wonder what is going on with Raju, did he find a new woman, did he win the lotto etc., But Raju keeps the secret to himself as otherwise his buddies will think that he is weird.

As a special thanks to Dr. Tremblay, Raju gifts some old zip disks and a zip drive for his family. This encourages Dr. Tremblay to search for creative solutions with his other clients using Linux and Old Computers in this digital age.

The End.

There's a film called "Her", which tells a similar story. A man falls in love with an AI assistant (think Siri or Alexa).
