Some Monty Python Classics. They don't make them like this anymore. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing …

The Life of Brian: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVnr87Bloz0

Monty Python & the Holy Grail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmtSj4wH5Rg

There's also classic sketches on youtube that stand on their own.

Zabriskie Point (Antonioni)
For the ambiance
Pardon Mon Affaire (original french title: « Un éléphant ça trompe énormément »)
For the laughs and nostalgia
Lawrence Of Arabia (Lean)
Read the book before or after the movie. It does not matter.

Leave Her To Heaven, 1945. Technicolor.

I'll have to check them out... I like the years of those .

^ Technicolor, yay! Europe lay in rubble and that's what they flooded us with back then - no wonder we got addicted to Hollywood.

I am very sorry, I should have described exactly what I meant this thread to be. It is my fault for not doing so.

What I intend this thread to be is a collection of *links* to specific full complete original movies on YouTube that the posters have watched and would recommend to others. People can then click on the link and immediately see the full complete original movie without searching, and without the high risk that the movie is not in fact available.

It is easy to provide a link: find the YouTube page for the full complete original movie, copy the page URL, and then paste this URL into the post, and also please give the title.

Favourite movies *without* links can be given in the other movie thread "An advice for a good movie to watch ?" which might be available here: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-watch-697994/

Thanks.

Not available on YouTube, so here is a link to Archive.org, although many or most of the films there are blurry.

Riffraff, 1947

https://archive.org/details/uma-aven...ado-sous-titre

It is in English.

An adventure with some excellent cinematography, but the would-be femme-fatale is disappointingly overweight/fat.

Maybe depends on the film.
Did you make an actual comparison, or are you just being contrary?

Also, are you sure you checked all the download options? For this one, there's a 1.1GB MKV option. Looks OK to me - definitely less blurry than the H.264, higher resolution. The original probably isn't much better. Not all films were made in high quality back then, and this one definitely looks like a low budget production. I skipped through it, looks like it was filmed entirely on set (all scenes are indoors).

All movies I checked on archive.org come in several formats and sizes, it's worth checking out.

Huh? Sounds like you had the wrong aspect ratio applied if you think this is overweight?!

^ Thanks.

Anybody knows why these movies are up on youtube like this? The (US American) entertainment industry usually takes great care to prevent this. I don't think they're in the public domain now?

They're B grade Westerns not in touch with today's sensitivities on women, race or sexual orientation. I'd imagine they're a liability at this stage. I imagine they went off the list they monitor and send take-downs for.

In that context, it could be argued this thread's title is an Oxymoron. "A Good Old Movie?" They're still charging money for "Gone with the wind," but that's about the only one. The exception proves the rule.

I guess so.
The first one is with John Wayne, a household name it used to be, and good colors/resolution.
I'll have to watch it to be able to assess it.

Usually it comes down to "I guess there's a good reason why this film is forgotten", but there might be the occasional pearl, who knows.
