'Certain insulin pumps are being recalled because they could be vulnerable to cyberattacks that may put patients' health at risk, the FDA has warned.
'The pumps being recalled are Medtronic's MiniMed 508 and MiniMed Paradigm series insulin pumps.'
'The FDA said it isn't aware of any patient harm related to these potential cybersecurity threats.' '
Even a partial closed-loop system is a game changer. It prevented a low on my kid's first day with it. On the other hand, she and I opted to wait more than a year before going to the partial, closed-loop system because of the security risk. She wanted to be the one to be the one that stopped insulin delivery. She even prefers that I wake her to correct rather than do a correction while she is asleep (which I completely respect). That said, teenagers kind of don't care about co-morbidities that will occur in their thirties because of their current behavior. And so I am waiting for Tandem's full closed-loop system to meet FDA approval. This stuff is not being rushed to market. Even the partial closed-loop system was "six months" to market for three or four years. Obviously, it's not going to be perfect and there will be security issues. I am willing to risk them so my kid can still see when she's 30.
