Hi dvts,

mlbhls does indeed still work a treat to fetch and decrypt the HD streams, so it sounds like it's the tool you're looking for. There may a couple quirks to getting it installed properly -- I don't have time to dig up all the info but I think it's all in the mlbviewer docs somewhere. Also I posted a patch somewhere upthread to get the mlbhls streams to work in all players -- without that I think they'll only work in mlbviewer2.

Note that I believe mlbviewer's official policy is not to support saving downloaded games since it might violate MLBTV's terms and conditions... But mlbviewer should be able to grab the game link and pass it to mlbhls, which should be able bring the bits to your computer and decrypt them. mlbviewer will also then pass those bits to a streaming video player of your choice; but I think anything else you do with them is up to you...

With great power comes great responsibility.

mlbviewer has plenty of tools to do things that are not supported by the MLB.TV Terms of Service.

And seeing as iTunes sells individual games, it is very likely frowned upon if not explicitly forbidden, to download the stream. It is admittedly a gray area--not explicitly mentioned but assumed to be disallowed since it is also not a part of the official offering.

Playing within the rules keeps all of us out of trouble and lets the mlbviewer project continue without harassment.

That said, the tools are there and you may be able to piece together a solution from notes posted throughout this thread (using the search feature.) And if you do, please keep it to yourself to protect the project and myself, the author.

Thanks!

I have not used mlbviewer since the end of the playoffs, but I just tried to start it and it fails to start with the message "Missing dependency: python-gdata required for mlbclassics". As it happens I do have python-gdata installed, but not the other python utube dependencies required to play mlbclassics with mlbviewer.

I have no interest in mlbclassics and I have never had this failure previously. Is there a reason why mlbviewer will no longer start? In particular is anyone else getting this: it is possible that a system upgrade since the postseason finished has broken some other dependency and I am getting a false report about the cause of the problem. I can reproduce this on 3 computers, but unfortunately for testing purposes they all use the same linux distribution with the same upgrades.

SVN revision 658: youtube data v2 api deprecated; relax python-gdata requirement

So Google deprecated that library and it's likely your distribution pruned it in an update.

Until I'm able to port the code to the v3 library, I've relaxed the requirement and made the commit to SVN this morning.

Thanks, that has solved it. I have python-gdata-2.0.18 installed, but the utube stuff has been removed.

Hi. This application seems great, however I'm running into some trouble when I click 'Enter' when trying to watch a game. When I do so, a message pops up saying:

Requesting media: ('MASN-HD', u'120', '60165183', '14-413657-2015-04-06')/bin/sh: mpv: command not found
/bin/sh: mlbhls: command not found

Any help on the matter would be much appreciated. Thanks for creating this great application. Can't wait to start streaming without my browser.

Please refrain from asking this forum to willfully and knowingly use my program to violate the Terms Of Service especially when what you are asking is definitely not legal.

It may only be "a handful of games" to you but this is exactly the wrong kind of attention to draw this project. Please know that developers for MLBAM have been known to use this program and read this forum. So if you think what's the big deal or who would know, you may be surprised.

First and only warning: I will report (to LinuxQuestions) anyone who uses this forum to buy and sell downloaded games.

You need both mpv to view the games and mlbhls to decode the HD streams. You will need rtmpdump to decode the SD streams.

Please refer to the INSTALL file or the Wiki for more information.

Maybe if your fancy forum had private messages like every other forum I've ever been on in my 20 years on the internet has had, I wouldn't have had to post that evil message but could have just sent daftcat there a PM.

And now since you inexplicably chose to quote the offending post of mine in its entirety, it is still there on the forum despite my having deleted it. You'd better scrub it quick before the commissioner's office shuts you down for good.

Also, why would I care if you got shut down? You've been nothing but incredibly rude to me when I wandered in here with no idea just asking for help. Further, I haven't gotten the help, meaning your program is useless to me, since I can't use it and no one will use it on my behalf. So you basically want me to care about the 'common good' of something I'm excluded from that is the baby of the guy excluding me and being rude to me. You computer people really aren't very good at human nature.

It looks like MLB.tv is going to have 60 fps broadcasts this year. daftcat, do you know anything about the details of how those will be streamed on the backend, or if mlbviewer and/or mlbhls will need updates to work with these streams?

Not the slightest clue. We probably won't see the 2016 offering until the last week of Spring Training.

Baseball's back!

Just a quick note to set the expectation.

If this year is anything like previous years, Spring Training will run off last year's code until the last week of March where MLBAM will roll out the new release, and try to service the engine while driving down the road. Expect bumps and blow ups with things stabilizing by the middle of April.
