daftcat: tried it now with the Dodgers@Phillies game: No workie
Got the mms link as you said, something like 127.0.0.1:8001 and so on. Tested with VLC and mplayer but no go. 800k in widescreen on the tv is great anyway
Go Phillies!

Stop the presses! I got the 1.2m stream running with quicktime
It even starts automatically when I change the path in the config file to where Quicktime player.app is.
With the 800k stream I had to first start it in VLC where the video was all scrambled and then copy it into mplayer. But now with the test/mlbgameid.py it all works beautifully in quicktime.

I don't understand that copying part but if it's working for you in 1.2 and you're happy, then I'm happy too.
....well, about as happy as I can be about potential Phillies-Rays Series. I was really hoping for a Sox-Dodgers matchup.
guys... i think MLB.tv might have cottoned on to something...
Has anyone tried going back to watching the games using the (shock!) MLB.tv website recently? I just tried it (watching the archive of last night's Rays-Sox game) and to my surprise it worked in Firefox!
It's not perfect - going fullscreen and then going back to a windowed view causes the picture to disappear completely but it's not bad - a step in the right direction!
I'll see if it works with live pictures tonight. The system requirements still don't mention Linux.
Kudos to MLB.tv if they've finally decided to cater for Linux users. I would imagine the mlbviewer project would have had a major part in influencing them. Fantastic!
EDIT: Of course it could be nothing to do with MLB.tv themselves... might well be due to the developers of the mplayer firefox plugin...

If they don't do anything drastic to the network code of mlbviewer (e.g. they still post the json listings and the workflow url still works), mlbviewer support will likely (hesitant to promise so far in advance) continue into the 2009 season regardless of whether the website supports Linux or not. Major reason for this is mostly a selfish one. My particular setup at home is much better suited for a curses app then using a browser.
Just because the season is finished doesn't mean development has stopped. Okay, it's taken a breather but there is winter league for this code. I recommend you stay subscribed to this thread. I'm not sure when but sometime before next season, I'd like to roll out new interface code. Don't worry. Everything will look and feel just the way you're used to except the code will be a lot better put together behind the scenes. It will also make switching between screens a lot easier because screens will be independently managed (and scrollable!) rather than drawn on the fly every time. Basically, if you've ever asked why we can do this thing in one screen but not another, it's because we did some hideous re-use of code rather than taking full advantage of python's object oriented abilities. I plan to fix this before next season but it would be good to still have testers. (The off-season is kinda why I implemented bookmarks. ;-)
I hope the devs still check this thread. With the new season coming up, I thought I'd suggest making an mlbviewer plugin/script for XBMC. I made a thread on the XBMC forum here:
My real job and my real passion (West Coast Swing - youtube it!) have sapped me of all desire to look at 'for fun' projects. Maybe after our release is out the door and the swing competition schedule relaxes, I'll look at this. We're talking probably April here.
I will do my best to make sure any changes they might introduce on opening day are accounted for quickly. But that whole code redesign I was talking about (or XBMC), probably not going to happen any time soon.
Anyone know if the WBC will work with mlbviewer? I know it might be too early to tell...
Yes and no. It will probably work with mlbgameid.py but I'm almost positive the listings will not show up in mlbviewer. Use firebug / View Source, or mouse over to find the game id. Good luck and keep me posted.
