Unhappy Cannot boot into Fedora 30 after hard shutdown

The boot process gets all the way to "Started GNOME Display Manager" but the screen goes dark and system freezes a few seconds later, keyboard lights no longer respond to inputs nor does anything else.

I've tried repairing GRUB (not grub 2, I have grub 9.11 for reasons I don't understand, I simply installed from a live usb).

It can and will boot to live usb, however its not clear how helpful this is.

The other place I sought help (above).

Utilizing a AMD R7 370 GPU... no other display outputs exist on this motherboard either.

can you boot into " text only" mode ?

if so log in as root and run startx

No you don’t. The highest version of Grub is 2.02: ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/grub.

To boot into text mode, you can interrupt the boot process when the Grub menu appears. See the single-user mode section on https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US...escuemode.html, but replace single with systemd.unit=multiuser.target.

I also recommend removing the quiet keyword so that you see boot messages.

I'm not sure a link to F16 (which has no grub2, no systemd, no dnf, no wayland ...) doco actually won't add to the confusion.

Hopefully the OP can get into multi-user - if not you may need to interrupt dracut - see this (also somewhat out of date) page.

Nah, I don't know what happened. It wasn't updating... I tried the multi-user thing and it didn't work. I ended up just installing a new distro on another drive. Ubuntu. Its great, I <3 Linux. Been a Windows user for my whole life... not certain I'll pay for an OS ever again!
