Can't access ext3 partition

Hi

Can someone please help me? I cannot access a partition from my user account, only the root account. I get a permission denied error.

I have 1 partition on 1 hard drive labelled /spare.

Under fstab it is:
LABEL=/spare /spare ext3 defaults 1 2

I have done the following on /spare:
chown -R ashley.ashley /spare
chmod -R 644 /spare

Change defaults to user in /etc/fstab.

Edited fstab then done a mount -a, but still getting the error:
bash: cd: /spare/: Permission denied

I tried both user & users.
