Looks and behaves exactly the same as 4 to me. Considering they're trying to get to version 7 before the end of the year, this is actually a "linux kernel v3" type situation... it's a change in the release cycle, so 5, 6 and 7 could be considered e.g. '4.5' or '4.6', etc. Equally 3.5 and 3.6 could have been considered 4 and 5 respectively... it's just 'numbers'.

I've checked your profile here. So you're a woman, a pilot and you're using Debian "sid" with custom kernel.

Either that or a spambot that's had an exceptionally good run...

It may seem so, but to note just some changes;

Added support for CSS animations
Added support for switching Firefox development channels
The Do-Not-Track header preference has been moved to increase discoverability
Improved canvas, JavaScript, memory, and networking performance
Improved standards support for HTML5, XHR, MathML, SMIL, and canvas
Improved spell checking for some locales
Improved desktop environment integration for Linux users

And a few hundred bugs fixed; http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox...s/buglist.html

So, it seems better than 4.

Man, that sounds like fun! :D ^

Been using Debian for about 4 years, switched from RedHat when they went commercial...

Please excuse these very nice if somewhat behind the times geeks. My wife has a System 76 Laptop running Ubuntu 10.04. All she has run since 08 is Linux (we "upgraded our computer and the new one came with Vista - enough to switch the most stubborn to Linux unless brain dead).

She wanted a Laptop so I got here a good one that was preinstalled and supported as all Linux friendly (it is).

She is quite a bit younger than I am but we are both a bit on the "old" side to be switching. Has not been hard at all and a lot less stress than Win JerryLewis Pro.

If Ubuntu had more women on board they might (slight might) be more sensible.

My dear friend widget posted a link you should visit. I've been recently browsing a little through Debian Women profiles and they are all very lovely. Alice Ferrazzi is most active I believe, she's really lovely. :D

Hi guys, how to report a Iceweasel 5 bug?

I have Debian 6 Squeeze, and install the latest Iceweasel version from mozilla.debian.net, I install and all is fine, work fine to four weeks, but now when open a any tab in the same main window, these open and a few seconds the tab leave these iceweasel main window and open automatically a new iceweasel window.

I reinstall iceweasel 5, but the problem remain.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

Four weeks, are you kidding?
After some 4 minutes I got the first crash! Deinstall/Reinstall numerous times and cold restarts did not, repeat NOT, alter the behaviour of Iceweasel 5.0.3bo... the least. It is just as rotten (still!) as the beta-versions of Windows(programs) from 10 and more years ago.
Keep away from the version on mozilla.debian.net, it IS despite the choice-button on the website, experimental and NOTHING more.

cynwulf 07-24-2011 01:28 PM

I read a lot of this fud about iceweasel - but the majority, including myself, are running it without issue. I've also only every run either the latest iceweasel from either the experimental repo or mozilla.debian.net and never had a problem - the last iceweasel I had problems with was a 3.0.x release back when I was running Lenny. A large proportion of crashes are usually down to add-on's or the adobe flash plugin.

craigevil 07-24-2011 05:45 PM

No problems here.

$ apt-cache policy iceweasel
iceweasel:
Installed: 7.0~a2+20110715042002-1
Candidate: 7.0~a2+20110715042002-1
Version table:
*** 7.0~a2+20110715042002-1 0
500 http://mozilla.debian.net/ experimental/iceweasel-aurora i386 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
6.0~b2-1 0
1 http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ experimental/main i386 Packages
5.0-4 0
500 http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages

5.0 is very stable, if you are having issues chances are it is either an extension or a theme causing problems, or a weird plugin, try running it in SafeMode and see if the problem persists.

superchar42 07-26-2011 01:08 AM

Iceweasel 5 seems to stall every time I load a page, until it is loaded.
Forced a reinstall when I found out for some reason it wasn't getting upgraded with the rest of my stuff.
Running Mint PPC 9.2/ Debian squeeze on iBook G4.

any tips?

cynwulf 07-26-2011 05:11 AM

The first thing to try is disabling IPv6 (unless you're actually using IPv6?) from within iceweasel - make sure you exit and reload it after doing so - and see if that speeds it up. If it doesn't install another browser from the repos (i.e. midori, epiphany, konqueror, chromium, etc, etc) and see if they have the same problem.
