Each time I start Skype, I'm asked to unlock the keyring.

How can I get rid of that, please?

Looks like gnome-keyring was installed during the installation of skypeforlinux.
Therefore, unlocking the keyring seems to be necessary for Skype to be working.

So, what I'd like to know is, how can I unlock the keyring automatically at bootup or when I start Skype, please?

in linux and for other scenarios, usually you get a popup that says do you want to add this to your keyring?

i wanted to add that it may also ask you for the password again so you type it in and hit ok/enter.

Here, I'm asked to enter a password to unlock the keyring, even that I never used a keyring before anyway.
The keyring issue came with the skypeforlinux installation.

I've set up Skype to auto-login when I open it and I don't want to lose that feature.

Unfortunately, Skype doesn't start and doesn't do the auto-login before the keyring is unlocked.

So, I guess, I need a way to unlock the keyring automatically,
because I absolutely don't want that popup to appear anymore,
but I cannot find a solution for that.

Do you, by any chance, have an idea how to do this (or anybody else)?

i never heard what you are experiencing - maybe you accidentally hit a password somehow initially. just a tought. wish i knew more to help you.

I did,... in vain. The popup is still there.
The installation for skypeforlinux adds gnome-keyring and therefor gnome-keyring-daemon is required and started afterwards.
And that's the very moment when all this begins.
But I cannot disable that daemon, because then, the auto-login of Skype doesn't work anynore.

If you want to try yourself, install skypeforlinux, activate auto-login for Skype within its settings,
reboot, start Skype and you see the mentioned question.

I didn't hit anything accidently or purposely, regarding this issue.

I got rid of mine which appeared at bootup after I enabled vpn.

To do it, you just change the keyring password to nothing.

I did so using a 'Passwords and Keys' app called seahorse.

madmax, have no use for skype and MS products and would not contaminate my good install just to try it out for you - sorry.

It's not a skype thing. I think it's a gnome thing. It seems to be for apps that require passwords, it's supposed to make our lives easier by having a master password for the keyring, and it knows all the passwords for any apps.

But like I said you just set your keyring password blank, and then it won't ask for it anymore. When you set it that way it'll give you some warning about that being insecure, but my opinion on that is you still have to login first so if you want security use a login password.

I cannot install seahorse, because it would remove Skype.

EDIT:
I did it!
I removed the .keyring file from my ~/.local/share/keyrings,
started Skype again and tried to login.
And when I was asked to unlock the keyring, I clicked "Next" twice.

Then I had to restart Skype and the keyring issue was gone.

EDIT:
Now, the only issue left is, I cannot start Skype minimized to tray.

I enabled Skype in the start-up apps and the restart apps of the settings console.

But then, when Skype starts, it shows only the title bar with an invisible window.
It looks a bit like in the movie Predator (the 1st one), when the alien is in invisible mode.
You don't see it, but when it moves, you see its shape.

So, I had the idea to start it not minimized, but to create a script to minimize it, let's say 4 seconds after it was started.

Is there anybody able to create such a script, please?

Not sure why installing one program would remove another, but you found a solution so no worries.

I have a similar start minimized issue with QBittorrent I posted about earlier. In my case, in addition to the ghost image at startup you describe, I also can't maximize it using the taskbar entry, I have to use it's system tray icon. Maybe an issue (bug?) that affects all apps that can start minimized?
