ATI Drivers - Not sure if installed, seems choppy to me.

I picked up some workstations at auction, a bit older but still functional. The cards installed are:

Radeon HD 6450 / 7450/8450/8490 OEM / R5
AMD/ATI] RV730 GL [FirePro V5700]

I believe I'm currently using the 6445, I've not opened up the machine to see which one is which, just to cleanup and install a hard drive. It works fine under windows running Photoshop, but seems a little choppy with Gimp.

Could just be the way is, but seems like it should be better so I'm thinking maybe the drivers are not installed, or not working correctly. I tried the Nvidia installer because I read it installs ATI drivers also, but it just tells me it didn't find a n Nvidia card and exits.

Hi euiat,

You don't mention which version of Linux you're using.

A couple of ideas ... try seeing what video modules are loaded:

Code:
lsmod
... and look for anything referring to video or display or graphics ...

Depending on the distro you're using, you could also query your package manager to see if the Radeon or other packages are installed ...

assuming you are running antiX 17 or MX17/18, since this is the subforum for antiX and MX.

the older amd proprietary fglrx drivers are no longer available, so you are left with the radeon and ati drivers in the kernel. The nvidia-installer tool in antiX 17 and MX 17/18 no longer offers to install fglrx as a consequence.

you could try MX15/16 or antiX 15/16, as I think those are still debian-jessie based and still have fglrx available.

... indeed.

My mistake - I hadn't paid attention to which forum this post belonged, having found it through the Zero Reply Threads search ... Apologies to the OP.

Cheers .
