IMHO,

Compiz has the 'eyecandy' to attract newbies and those 'other OS' users - come and try Linux.

My vote reflects the fact that compiz alone _maybe_ scores more Linux newcomers than all other 'bells and whistles' of linux.

*visual* as it is.

YMMV :-)

i voted Metacity. clear and good looking. also the Gnome configuration tools simply rule!

cpuobsessed 02-03-2009 08:25 AM

compiz has made great strides this year, not just the eye candy with compiz-fusion but also the zoom and translucency

Window Manager of the Year

Where is AfterStep?

s0ldat 02-03-2009 11:36 AM

I hasn't found pekwm in the list, so compiz is my choice.

Add JWM eh?

I use JWM alot. Infact I'm using it right now and I use it on my Damn Small Linux Box.

Voted for ratpoison, as xfce isn't on the list. Window Maker is a close third, and a fond old friend (right along with AfterStep).

Sure, the best Window Manager is FVWM.

XFCE's window manager is XFWM, it is on the list, as i remember.

Fvwm forever, it looks:
Is there any other WM out there that can serve a DESK? The only WM gadget I need is the popup Pager (and bg-click menus) to navigate my desk. The taskbar is a crappy windoze invention. And no, serving several disconnected peepholes doesn't do for anyone who wants to work effectively with lots of windows. OK, at least better than the windoze 1-peephole system. But KDE, Gnome and the like are like walking with golden crutches.

Did a lot of testing with light systems in the past few months. OpenBox impressed me with a big feel in a small footprint.

kibou 02-04-2009 11:07 AM

I would vote for dwm, but as it is not there as option. I go for Fluxbox, as it is what i used to use.

dora 02-05-2009 04:41 AM

Voted for Fluxbox. It is always light and clean.

Please add StumpWM - at least in the same line as Ratpoison. It is a Common Lisp rewrite of ratpoison by the original ratpoison author.

Where is Pekwm?
