Hey, hey fluxbox is the real winner here not Compiz.
Surprised to see than openbox didn't get more than it did.

Does the low number of votes for Metacity mean that Compiz has more or less replaced it as the default window manager for Gnome in Ubuntu (at least)?

And does the fact that fluxbox is the second most popular window manager mean that distros with fluxbox based desktop environments are more popular than KDE based ones?

Flux may be pretty but OpenBox Rocks in the fast, light, and functional depts.!

edit: i think many GNOME, KDE and XFCE users don't know or don't care about the widow manager they use. it was that guy before who misses the XFCE WM. the explanation could be that the guys using alternative WMs are more conscious about it than the others.
and i'm sure if the big 3 main DEs would have used theirs same name as WM (for example GNOME window manager) the situation would be other.

Fluxbox is a fork from Blackbox, wh/besides being a nice light wm in it's day, also gained fame because it was Stallman's preferred choice (no clue whether this is still the case). Flux is highly customizable and attracts users who really like to tweak and tune their desktop. Hence there are a LOT of flux themes out there and it maintains a pretty fiercely loyal following. It's what I used back in the day, post Blackbox, and before I switched to OpenBox.

There's a lot to be had for the "roll your own" approach if you have the time and inclination. Just be prepared to spend some time in "man" and digging into various config files - a great way to increase one's understanding of what goes on "under the hood".

Been there and done that, however, and now essentially retired and have better things to do with my time so am using Gnome (wh/unfortunately currently ships with about the suckiest WM I've ever used). So yeah, even us old dogs are copping out and just employing the default for the sake of convenience. But... if I ever wanted to resurrect an old 300MHz PII w/o much RAM.... I know right where I'd turn:)

I was wondering if any of you has tried Blackbox 0.70?
I don't know what is with the version, it is a total rewrite and you need to theme converter to use the old themes. The themes that are supplied are as plain as they can be.

even tho im too late to vote... dwm and xmonad!!!!!
