I do not think you can install any linux-distro on NTFS, so that might be a problem fo you. Most distros do, however, give you the option during installation to create linux partitions on the free space of an NTFS HD. When I installed Kubuntu a week ago, it didn't give me this option, so you might need to use another partitioning program, to create the partitions you need. GParted might be able to do this, but I am not certain.
I can't answer the the questions about Wmware, as I've never used that program, but I'am sure someone else on this forum can help you
