The fact that the gnome desktop seems to like to jumble icons over top of one another? This morning update manager offered me

Upgraded the following packages (Ubuntu 9.10):
gdm (2.28.1-0ubuntu2.1) to 2.28.1-0ubuntu2.2
xserver-common (2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.2) to 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.3
xserver-xorg-core (2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.2) to 2:1.6.4-2ubuntu4.3
which I installed. I downloaded several files to the desktop this afternoon and noticed that they were not slapped on top of one another as I have been used to seeing. I hope this annoying "feature" has been fixed for good.
Reasonably well. Sometimes the icons or file names are large enough to overlap others - pdf documents for example. Still better that it used to be. But I just remembered I installed a new kernel and some other updates yesterday which required a reboot - which I did not do as I was in the middle of something. Guess I should reboot and see the VERY latest.
Still working OK (fingers crossed). The only annoyance I have experienced since the "fix" is related to the variable sizes of icons. At the moment I have 3 pdf and 9 text files on the Desktop. Reading down the left column they are
pdf
text
text
text
text
pdf
pdf
text
The text file icons are smaller and thus closer together. If I delete the second text file and download a pdf to the Desktop it will take the open space left by the deleted text flie. However, the hole left behind is too small for the larger pdf icon and it will encroach on the ajacent icons.
