10.10 Ubuntu Physical power button doesn't work

Hi,

I previously had Ubuntu server 9.04, 9.10 and 10.04. I use it as a headless server and the power button had always worked.

at first, I updated from 10.04 to 10.10 and everything was working great but I decided to reinstall the os on a new HDD. then when I want to shutdown the server, I need to login with ssh and shutdown it with "halt -p", the power button doesn't do anything. I connected a monitor to the server to see what's happen on the screen but nothing... no message. nothing in the error log.

I tried to add apm force_off=1 in the /etc/modules but still not working.

can any one help me solve this problem?

Thanks

Hi -

1. This is an old post, but I would definitely encourage you to try it:

Quote:

sudo apt-get install acpid
<= You might even consider DE-INSTALLING ACPI before you run this command! To make sure you've got a "known, good, clean, latest/greatest" configuration
2. Once you've done that, if it still doesn't work, try this:

Replacing the line "action=/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh" with "action=/sbin/poweroff" in /etc/acpi/events/powerbtn is a successfully workaround.
'Hope that helps

You might also want to try this to shut down your computer:

Code:
sudo init 0
init, unlike halt, is literally the first process to ever run on the system. Telling it to go to runlevel 0 will shut down the system.

It would be great if you would go to the Thread Tools (top right of page) and mark this as solved.

Makes it easier for folks to know when you no longer need help and helps folks that may have a similar problem to find a solution with out posting another thread.

Thanks for doing that.
