Unhappy opensuse 10.3 kde4 kdeinit error

Hi
I have d/l kde 4 from the suse site and installed via yast but when starting a new session I get an error
Code:
cannot start kdeinit4 check your installation.
I have looked for inspiration but so far have come up blank. system is a Fujitsu amilo pro centrino 2Ghz with 512M ram. Running 10.3 with Gnome and kde3 no probs. The system logs don't seem to have anything that points to anything helpful. Any ideas?
Thanks
Mark

I had this problem with earlier KDE4 versions and fixed it by upgrading the KDE4 packages.

Thanks auxsvr. I assume you upgraded the packages with kde 3 / gnome running? I will give it a go and see what packages I can find that are new. I tried to install again through yast but got no further on starting a new session. Will try your suggestion.

Tried to update the kde 4 files but still no joy. Installed kde4 kdm as that seemed to not be there. I started a console session end ran
Code:
xinit
then
Code:
kde4
Got the following error:
Code:
kdeinit4: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeui.so.5: undefined symbol: _ZN12KConfigGroup10writeEntryEPKcRK10QByteArray6QFlagsIN12KConfigFlags15WriteConfigFlagEE
Mean anything to anyone?

I had exactly the same problem but cannot remember what I did to fix it. Try adding the lines
Quote:
PATH=/opt/kde3/bin:${PATH/:\/opt\/kde3\/bin}
export PATH
right below the first four # lines in /opt/kde3/bin/startkde.

real starnge this one. It didn't work up till the final release of kde4.0, tried each time there was a new release of RC etc and now it is ok. Not sure I like it but that is me not it I think!

The same thing happens to me when I install kde4-kontact. Works fine if I don't install that.
