for some reason yast sees gimp 1.2 as newer than the 2.0 i have installed.if it's going by date the package was loaded on the server it makes sence,1.2 was loaded after 2.0.
so from now on i double-check the version numbers to make sure it actually is an update.

Can someone tell me where you add these sources that are at the beginning of this thread. As I cant work it out for the life of me .I tried adding them to the "Software Source Media" Change Installation Source, But only get errors ,, If thats where Im supposed to add them then What part of the source goes in "Server Name" and what part goes in " Directory on Server" surely for someone who knows about adding sources to YAST could then Hopefully explain How to add them And Where? Ive Tried different threads and Posts ,and different repos ect and Im hardly getting anywhere ,Why is it so Confusing ,Is there different ways and different parts of YAST to add these sources to ,or can they all be added to Change Installation Source , I mean for example what server name do you add to these sources that are given at the beginning of this thread , Can someone try and set this straight for me ,Ill take any kind of help and answer.

It is always the same pattern for each update directory. The server doesn't need to be changed.

If you still get errors, please post precicely what you have done so far.

here are some servers, all pointing to directory.yast (i'm a total newbie, i think YaST repositories have to point to this file in order for YaST to consider it as a valid resource, please correct me if i'm wrong).

I think these sources are partially redundant.
The following sources are both offering mainly multimedia packages for SuSE:
I did not check the other links in detail, but I assume these are all mirrors of the main SuSE server that offers the FTP version of SuSE 9.2. If this is the case, it would be sufficient to add only one server (the nearest) of each group to the installation sources.

thank you very much abisko00 for pointing this out, and it's definitely true that there are redundancies.

for instance, however, distro.ibiblio.org is a very fournished source which has gftp (not available on nectar.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de), just as ops.tamu.edu.

not checked in detail either, but i've seen there are differences in package availability and hopefully an additional mirror is better than none at all :)

i get some freezing problems with the server posted here above... not sure if i do something wrong, or if they just are bad ones... anyone has tried them in YaST?

I've got a problem with this now. I downloaded the new vesion of KDE a few days ago, but i cant figure out how to tell yast to install it from there.

I have all the files in /root/Downloads/KDE/. I open YaST and go to Change Source of Installation, then i go to [B]Add -> Local Directory...[B] and in then i click on browse and go to the folder and click OK. It adds it on the list and i click on Finish.

Now the probs start.. I try to open Install and Remove Software but it closes right after it opens and so fast that i cant even see anything.

Then i tryed the Patch CD Update and i also add the directory there. But when i click Nexŧ i get an error:

error Unable to read the directory './i386/update/9.1/patches'.

So i made all these folders in my /root/Downloads/KDE/ folder and move all my files there. I click Next and get an error again.

Error

Signature check for patch info files failed.
Cannot load patch information.

Patch: qt3-unixODBC-3.3.3-36.i586.rpm

I tryed to re-download this but its still the same, and i doubt the file is corrupt. If i remove it then i get another random file as error..


Did i do something wrong? I downloaded all the KDE files from here:

Found a new Yast source (maybe a little bit specialized):

HTTP
server: www.biolinux.org
directory: soft/suse/9.1

FTP
sever: www.biolinux.org
directory: biolinux/suse/9.1

This offers bioinformatics packages for SuSE. Very nice ;)

You cannot add a local directory to yast sources if this does not contain a specialized structure (see: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2004/02/yast_instsrc.html ). To install the downloaded files, copy them in a separate directory and install them with rpm -Uvh *.rpm.

This feature is for patches only. You cannot update KDE with this.

Try to use the files from the supplementary folder as mentioned in this thread previously (see my short howto in post#10). The installation will be over internet, though.

I've pretty much tryed all the mirrors i could find, and i always get it. :(

Be sure that you do not start the directory path with a slash (/), and end up in the 'yast-source' directory. This should work!
