Weird.. because it's the primairy mirror of SuSE. Maybe the server has some problems lately? I had some difficulties with adding repositories at my SuSE 9.3 too this week.

I think the server is down.... But I've searh a little and find an sources.list that show me other repositories who has the same subdivisions (packman, scorot, guru....) and packages than the repos at ftp.gdwg.de.

I've found that at http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/in...howtopic=21505. Look for the mirros at ftp://mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefe...uSE/10.0-i386/

I'll test this later.

repository not accepting

Dear folks,
i am a suse newbie here. Just got on ( and loving it) the 10. Well i have a problem -
whenever i try to enter the repository name into the yast it returns an error. Am i doing it wrong?
can i know the setp by step procedure to add a repository ...
thanks

Lets say a repo has the url http://ftp.opensuse.org/pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source/ , you would select http as the protocol. The name of the server would be ftp.opensuse.org and the installation directory would be pub/opensuse/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source .

thanks a lot reddazz ! it sure worked now.it was throwing error like media_ .whatever.
Can you please put up a couple of more repositories ?
and would you mind helping me with the following:

1. How to install - and run *.jar files
2. How o deal with tar.gz /tar files
3. RealPlayer not working (mozilla) ...when i click on a link it just stays there..no response.

thanks once again

running Suse10 Gnome
celeron 2.8Laptop

Jar files,
Code:

$java -jar jar-file
For installing software from tarballs take a look here.
For Realplayer to work with Firefox, just run it and make sure you select the option to configure Mozilla helpers.

Err..real player doing nothing

hii reddazz
thanks once again for the tip on jar files...i have instaled real, it has configured to mozilla helpers-but anytime i use a real player online -it just says intitializing ..no progress hencforth...

thanks mate

reddazz 10-27-2005 03:21 AM

Where did you get the realplayer package? Is it an rpm?

rainbowarrior 10-27-2005 03:53 AM

rpm -yast

Dear Redhazz,
real player was installed from yast ... i had once unistalled real player and reinstalled it again when it was not working(same problem). the real player is opening in its own window ..but not playing streaming content.
- do you thing it s problem with the file handler inside mozilla ?(is ti helix ?)
Now,as for the jar file when i enter the command - it says '-jar'command not recognised

At the risk of stating the obvious, make certain you have Java installed, and also that you have your path's properly specified in your command line.

Realplayer comes together in the DVD Eval of suse 10.0, no need to download separately.

Since none of the origional repositories links at the beginning of this post work anymore, anyone care to share ones that work? Opensuse.org happens to be completely useless.

Check the list of mirrors on the opensuse site and try those that are near you.
