YaST2 failed to create scanner database..

hi, there.
I have a prob when I do scanner configuration by YaST2--hardware--Scanner----...on the way, "Error Message"=Failed to create Scanner Database, so my configuration is never complete.

I have insalled "sane-backends" and "sane-frontends" and xsane. I went through LQ, trying to find out some similar threads for solution, however, so far I could not find it. I appreciate it if anybody would provide me with clue to solve this issue...Thanks
john, newbie...

Thanks for re-directing my msg to SuSe forum....actually my understanding of "from scratch" sounds like " totally new to Linux OS"....100% new and don't know anything about Linux...that's why I put it "Linux from Scratch"....
now I understood after I careflly read comments. THKS again....

Ok, Actually what I wanna know and the prob I have is this:

When I install Xsane and I found in readme or install instruction in a file, saying " Add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf....and do "ldconfig. or I came across other description like " make sure your /etc/ld.so.conf contains /usr/local/lib....

And I presume that error msg "failed to create scanner database" might have resulted from that I did not follow the above instruction....but for a newbie, a bit scary things it is...since I may change some important configuration, so I dare not touch....since my cute SuSE 9.3 is working very well now...xine, kaffeine...xmms...firefox...all are good now...

Is there anybody who know how to "add /usr/local/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf.....

(my scanner is Umax Astra 2500 and know it is not in list of supported scanner through "5 CD original SuSE 9.3 pro". I delete original xsane and install again and again, but in vain!....)
john at a loss
