I've just rebuilt my box after installing a new ATI Radeon X1300 card.
I've followed the
OpenSUSE.org Instructions on configuring ATI drivers and everything appeared to be working fine, then I looked closer and found the problem very stange.
I tried a few tests
glxgears:
Gnome
660fps and no OpenGL games work properly.
KDE
3677fps and games like Chromium B.S.U work beautifully
wtf???
glxinfo
Gnome
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: No
client glx vendor string: ATI
KDE
name of display: :0.0
display: :0 screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
client glx vendor string: ATI
Yes/No.... eh?
Desktop Effects Setting
If I go into desktop effects settings in Gnome or KDE (but I guess it's reading the Gnome settings) it says:
ATI Technologies Inc Unknown device 7183
3D Acceleration Disabled
Desktop Effects: Disabled
"3D Acceleration Disabled" is a lie because everything is working fine apart from you!
Now, I suppose that SaX2 could be something to do with it because it says.
Card: VESA Framebuffer Graphics
'Activate 3D Acceleration' is checked but is greyed out
The "ATI Catalyst Control Center - Linux Edition" is working normally and is not saying "No devices detected" like it used to on my laptop.
So I really don't know what the problem is. It's really weird, someone please help me, my brain can't handle this!
