The partitioner is useless!!! especially if you want / to be bigger than /home!!!
in the end i partitioned with CFDISK from a slackware disk then swore at the suse partitioner untill it set the mount points like i wanted...

the rest of teh install went smoothly (if a bit slow!) (like 6 hours!!!) untill it tryed to auto detect printers. this caused a total system hang.... punched the reset button and it worked anyway without that step....

trying to auto detect printers in yast fails too, but at least it lets you skip that step... the installer really should too!

I've had no problems with Suse 10.0 and am reluctant to upgrade to 10.1. especially the Open Source version. I've heard that it still has some bugs. Hardware detection was good, DSL was easy through Yast. Found the solution for
my Epson CX4800 all-in-one. I have an HP 305 with an upgrade to a 80G hard drive. I dual boot with Windows XP. It's been one of my favorite flavors so far.

I have installed SUSE from 6.x onwards, and have had no problems, except for one thing: it was always a bit of a headache getting sound to work. With other distro's (Slack, Vector, Zenwalk, Fedora - all of these on the same hardware) no problems in that department.

SuSe 10.1 has been remastered as of Oct 15 at the following link:

This includes all fixes and flaws have been corrected. It also includes some files that were mssing from the original issue. You can also use this to update your current version of 10.1. There is also the full 64 bit DVD or cd's if anyone is interested. The broken Yast and YUM are fully working now - so enjoy.

Except the DVD re-master was fubarred and won't be ready until the end of the week.

3rd. computer - SUSE 9.3 - wouldn't install

------------------ SUSE 10.2 Alpha1 - non graphic installation was simple but since it is an Alpha other problems keep intruding, mainly additional application incompatibilities.

In my opinion 9.3 is the most stable and reliable version I have used. I don't like fiddling with software. That's why I think SUSE suits me best over Slackware, Mandrake, Fedora, Ubuntu, and several insignificant others.

Funny I downloaded and install both the remastered 32 and 64 bit DVD's yesterday for 10.1. Besides I get emails w/links from Andreas when programs are released or in Beta since I am a tester for SuSe/Novell. I check the releases and if they are valid for user download I try to post the links on the different SuSe forums providing I have the time. Only reason I am replying to this post is that I received a alert that someone posted to my 2005 post about SuSe 9.3, Lol.

Definitely, suse has been the easiest linux to install for me.

I've installed every SuSE from 8.0 thru 10.1.

Only issues have ever been when upgrading major releases, however, new installs always worked except on one Toshiba laptop which had the 'Toshiba keyboard error'. However, even that was fine on 10.1.

How does anyone download the new 10.1? I have been trying for two days now, on a fast broadband connection. It says that it will take over 100 hours for one CD! Is there a site that will download faster than that? It would appear that the site is severely overloaded!

The install went very well, most every thing worked right off. had to go find a few things for dvd playback, java, etc. but these were minor and I learned a lot in the process. the people on the forums are the greatest. Problems so far are minor compared to those I had with windows, at least i have never lost anything with linux. I have on occasion forgot where I put it, but at least it was still there when I remembered where I sent it. Just wandering has Linux ever "crashed" my system has be up a couple of months. this was unheard of when I had Xp.

I installed 9.2 as a dual boot with Windows XP and it went very smooth. It created all the partitions and has worked fine for over a year until just recently when it refused to boot the KDE GUI. I am really having a time trying to restore it and am finding out from the posts on this site that it is even more of a problem in the 10.x versions. Otherwise, I have enjoyed using 9.2 and plan to continue along the SUSE path with the goal of replacing all my Windows apps with Linux apps as they become available and as I understand how to set them up.

Smooth as silk (10.1). It takes AGES to check the packages though, and the partitioning tools blow. If I want to simply resize a partition, I have to mess with the cylinders... I shouldn't have to. I should simply be able to respecify a size

Other than that, flawless. I'm about to install it again
