Is SuSE 9.3 better than OpenSuSE 10.0

From reading the different threads it seems to me that SuSE 9.3 (which I'm currently using) is more stable than it's open source sister (aka SuSE 10).
Isn't it???

I wouldn't consider 10.0 unstable nor was 9.3 except of course when I chose to make it unstable. I've run 10.0 from the day it was released and haven't had any issues. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Firefox 1.5.0.2.

I never ran 9.3 but Open SUSe 10.0 worked a lot better for me than SUSe 9.1 Personal Edition which was like a demo OS.

You are comparing apples to oranges..

A .0 vs a .3 version.

IMO Wait for SuSE 10.3 and compare 9.3 to 10.3, but I do like 10.0 / 10.1 better then 9.3

I have had numerous hardware configuration problems with SuSE 10.0. Mainly with video card support and wireless network cards.

However, I was able to get some of the video issues worked out. Overall, IME SuSE 10 runs better on desktops than it does laptops. most of my problems were getting SuSE to run smoothly on my laptop. I ended up putting unbuntu on my laptop and putting SuSE on my desktop. Now only if I could get an application that is very Internet explorer since I have to use IE to file online warranty repair claims for part of my job, and certain sites only run in IE.

Look into Crossover Office. It installs an IE from MS's web and it runs. I used it to register my on my Comcast cable -- This is an enhanced wine environment. Linux and Firefox works great after getting though the Microsoft hurdle. Comcast actually told me you have to have Windows to use the Internet. WOW, these guys are stupid.

well for me it is one small barrier. HP's channel services which all online warranty claims are made on for warranty repairs runs in some stupid active X enviroment, which only works in IE. It is something that HP developed too, so like when you first go to the site with any version of IE, you have to install their active X controls.

I have tried firefox, opera, mozilla, netscape, safari (on my mac), and none of them work. It is kind of annoying.

Why do you need crossover office, wine can do it as well. You need to use it with winetools and you can have IE, Windows Media Player setup and other windows software too. Well if you don't want to set up much, want a ready to use solution and are ready to pay some amount for it then please go for Crossover office.

9.3 is better if you don't need to use GNOME (which was buggy as heck all throughout SUSE's history until 10.0 came around). If, on the other hand, you want to use and effective and stable installation of GNOME on SUSE, then definately go with 10.0.

My reason for suggesting Crossover Office is that I verified that it worked. As I pointed out, wine might work but I don't know that it will or what the steps are to make it work.

Here are some steps on how to do it that I received from my local LUG members.
Install wine
go to frankscorner.org
browse to IE 6
follow instructions (install sidnet script, configure, install dcom98 with
optons given by frank same with ie6)
Enjoy IE 6.
Hope that will give you the desired result.

Thumbs up OpenSuSE 10.0 is the best

I am using Open SuSE 10.0 since the release of Its Beta version. Before that, It was SuSE 9.3. I have no doubt 10.0 is the best.

I am using SuSE 9.0, 9.1, 9.3 and 10.0 on various Networks, as file servers with various workstations and must say that it has been a pleasure to setup a network since 10.0 was released. Have not had a single problem on any of the 10.0 servers. However, the other systems run well and when I look at the MS servers, (unfortunately I have some of them to maintain as well) there is no comparison.
