Exclamation Asus laptop not supported in 10.1

Hey, since everybody else is griping about 10.1, I have something to ask as well.
My laptop is an ASUS M3000N. (M3N) Centrino, Pentium M 1.4, 512MB RAM.
My laptop is not well supported in 10.1, period. The sound is an intel 82801DB ICH4. I've tried all the intel sound fixes at the command line, and nothing works. reinstalled twice, and nothing.
ACPI isn't even a distant possibility, since I have to install without it or the installer hangs. On a laptop, that means no battery meter and no warning before the laptop shuts off.

Wireless is flawless, it's ipw2100. that's had its struggles, and is past them.

Why is ACPI not at all supported? Why is such a common sound card not supported? I reinstalled 10.0 and it works like a dream. ACPI, Sound, everything.

One step forward, two steps back?

i had a similiar problem with my new laptop's sound card ( nforce4 ) with fedora core 5. i tried out the latest ubuntu then as its a lot newer than FC5 ( and also much newer than 10.1 ) and i had just abt all the hardware work out of the box. dont know if this helps but if u can give this a shot i would recoment it without hesitation.
