9.3 maintenance mode

noob here, any chance someone could tell me how to get suse 9.3 out of maintenance mode please? i ran YOU, and some packages started failing when they were being installed, then my desktop started to seem unstable, like apps not starting, applications already running became non-responsive, and so i tried to shut the comp down... but that didnt seem to be doing quite that, so i opened a console window, and typed "kill now -r" i think it was to shutdown now then reboot after, when the comp rebooted suse entered maintenance mode, now i cant get it out of maintenace mode, is there a shortcut key i can use? i read up some stuff about restarting the x window system and an init command, but it all went on like a bit of jargon to me (bit too technical), like i said im a linux newbie, is there anyone willing to help me? i will give details about what it says when its in maintenance mode as soon as i get back home. any help is appreciated, thnx in advance.
