It seems to me that both versions have issues. I installed 10.1 when it had all those ZMD issues. I ended up having to install Smart and it worked great. I had no wireless support still (Broadcom chip) and had some other bugs (I fixed them so long ago I forget).
I just installed 10.2 fresh and had several problems, different issues.
1.) Broadcom driver installed but doesnt work with my chipset (I had to uninstall it and install ndiswrapper).
2.) The whole adding sources thing (now that ZMD issues are fixed? in 10.2) works but its slow. I have to wait for it to download the catalog everytime I go to software management. I guess thats the same as Smart but I could swear that Smart was faster.
3.) Sound is gone. Some sort of incompatibility between KDE sound system and OSS. Just started troubleshooting that.
4.) Sudoers file is all screwed up and when I go to Yast through the KDE menu it rejects my root password (when my root password works in shell via "su").
So, back to my subject line, which is the lesser of 2 evils?
Since I'm being rhetorical, I'm just curious which other Distro are other people moving to.
I just downloaded Mandrivia One and booted the live cd and it bombed on me.
I've used Kubuntu (I'm a KDE fan) but it's very barebones.
I use 10.2 at home and 10.1 re-mastered at work and the only real difference I've seen is 10.2 seems more 'done'. By that I mean that different apps, modules, etc. play better with each other.
Like you I'm stuck in a quandary - my production server is SuSE 10.0 whilst my test server was 10.1 for a short while, back to 10.0 and now 10.2. Like you I find the zen updater terribly slow and have been looking for a replacement distro.
I've tried a lot of distros but the sticking point is that although I'm quite comfortable with editing conf files, YaST on the whole is so good that a lot of the time I don't need to manually interfere. Therefore although I'm currently looking at both Debian and Fedora, either will need a lot more effort in order to replace what I'm currently doing in SuSE. The current issue is trying to replace SuSEfirewall2 with fwbuilder.
I'd also be very interested in what other SuSE'rs are doing right now.
