10.0 -- Very slick -- Thanks SUSE

10.0 seems a very nice and slick release -- installed on 2 Desktops and 1 Laptop.

Only some minor niggle type probs -- one of which is not a 10.0 issue.

1) As posted elsewhere --I have a problem with exiting KDE -- some ArTsd app or whatever --- doesn't effect the useability of the system but could confuse ordinary users if you don't use automatic logins ( I always run at Run level 3 as I like to see what's going on in case of probs).

2) Browsing a Windows network needs firewall to be temporarily disabled -- I've also posted that problem --this is an on going issue I believe and not related to 10.0 ( I've had the same prob with 9.0/9.2 and 9.3 but it's only now I really NEED a firewall to be running 100% of the time)

3) YAST still doesn't find a list of update servers so this will have to be done manually -- the documentation for example says to update Nvidia cards get the nvidia driver via YOU --but if YOU doesn't work --- well.

4) Firefox users -- go into about:config and disable the network ipv6 dsn search as before or you might find firefox resolves DNS's VERY SLOWLY. (Simply enter about:config in the address bar where you normally enter the site you want to visit note no space before or after the semi colon -- the forum software seems to add a space here).

Disabling this doesn't mean you can't access these sites of course. -- Note if your ISP DNS'S are using the new IPV6 system then this might make no difference --most are still using the standard xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx system for IP adresses.

Other than those it's great --seems slick and everything else I need is working

CUPS --- fine printing from Linux ==> Linux and Windows ===> Linux OK

File shares / SAMBA fine

Email / Internet fine

Office Fine

Wireless -- fine with Ndiswrapper and Linksys wpc54g card (Broadcom chipset)

Multi-media -- LibdvdCSS and DVD stuff from Pacman -- works fine

I'm not sure what actual apps are missing from this release compared to the production / retail release -- some non GPL'ed software like Realplayer 10 and Adobe pdf reader are included. For Email servers you can download what you need but no probs for Email Clients.

This definitely seems stable enough for a Production release.

I'll probably buy the retail version -- it's only 59 USD and I like the idea of having the documentation in decent manuals etc.

Other than that

Thanks SUSE -- Job well done -- One Satisfied customer here --even though I downloaded the FREE 10.0 I'll plump up the 59 USD when the release is available in the shops --probably in November here in the U.K

(Now if only I could get Photoshop CS2 working on Wine -- the latest version I really could DUMP the big Bill FOREVER).

Cheers

-K

http://www.linuxquestions.org/reviews/showcat.php/cat/4 is the best place for this sort of thing. No one has yet reviewed it. I am closing this in anticipation of your review.
