Thumbs down 'Bad' signatures on additional repositories very irritating

Hi all,

Is it me?

Having installed 10.1, and wanting to enable multi-media support, I thought I know I'll add the SUSE 'Super' Cd as an additional installation source.

Now whilst the CD was indeed added 10.1 came up with the warning 'Bad' signature. There is a box to tick to stop this constant reminder, however ticking the box doesn't work..

So I thought, how about the additional repositories listed on the 'OpenSUSE' site, guess what? They have 'Bad' signatures as well.

Now updates aren't much fun at the best of times, they are even less funny when you have to keep hitting the ignore button, for every 'Bad' signature warning which keeps coming up despite repeatedly ticking the box so you are not reminded of them, again, and again, and again, and again..

It's frustrating.

By the way did synaptic leave your 'Super' Distro with broken packages like it did mine?

If you are using synaptic - there should be a config file in the /etc/synaptic directory where you change check-gpg-signatures="true" to "false" That would eliminate the signature checking.

Alternatively - you could download smart package manager from http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/rpm-...=/System/smart

It is similar to synaptic - but also recommends additional packages. (ie - When I installed mplayer, it also chose the libdvdcss, win32codecs, and other packages for me.)

Smart is also able to do complete system upgrades with no intervention.

Thanks for that SkippyBoy

I was stupidly using YAST Update in Suse 10.1.

Why should I need a Third party application.

Just what is Suse coming to?

Not being stupid at all. It just seems that package management was drastically changed in 10.1...

That is the reason for the Smart system. To provide a stable/consistent way to manage packages. I think Yast/Zen were changed because of Novell. I think Smart is more the work of the users - but don't quote me on this...
