Thunar doesn't show CD's or DVD's anymore

Hi,

I'm running Slackware 13.37 with Robby Workman's Xfce 4.8.3. Thunar has suddenly stopped showing data CD's or DVD's in the side pane when I insert them. I can still mount them manually though. USB disks still appear correctly though.

On this one machine, I did a manual "eject" and "eject -t" as root in a graphical Terminal yesterday. I wonder if this created some weird interference somewhere.

Not the slightest idea what could have gone wrong here.

Have you tried with disabling the existing personal Thunar configuration? The easiest way to do that is to rename ~/.config/Thunar or, to be more sure, to create a new user and see if the problem "goes away" for that user.

Yeah, I tried nearly everything. Removing ~/.config, reinstalling my custom packages, to no avail. In the end, I just solved the problem by "reinstalling" the whole thing (e. g. restoring the Ghost4Linux image from the local FTP server). It remains a mystery.

XFCE also keeps settings under ~/.cache/ for some reason. I suspect it was something in there

In the thunar menu there is an option to enable volume management - it might not be on by default?

I had lots of problems with Xfce newer than 4.6, in Debian, with regards to volume management, shutdown, reboot, etc, due to the removal of HAL. Usually starting Xfce from a display manager is the quickest fix.
