FWIW: Shortly after it was released on Sunday I built and installed the 6.6-rc6 kernel. All was well for the rest of the Sunday and Monday morning, but then I installed yesterday's -current updates and it all went straight down the drain from there. Over the next few hours after the updates were installed the computer re-booted itself twice and then less than 30 minutes after the second reboot it started to reboot a third time, but froze somewhere in the process leaving a blank screen. The reset button wouldn't work and it was finally necessary to pull the power plug.
Once restarted, I booted to the 6.1.y kernel and there have been no problems since.

maybe you will find something in log files, if 6.6-rc5 worked, then the changes are quite minimal, mostly related to net, some bluetooth so not sure what is causing reboot.
6.6-rc6 works for me but it all depends on hardware/config

@bathory,
Many thanks for the patches.
There were a few minor problems with the nouveau driver, but the patched Nvidia-470.199.02 driver works as it should with the 6.6-rc7 kernel.

BTW, it was necessary to apply both the 6.5 and 6.6 patches. The 6.6 patch by itself didn't work.
Thanks, again.

Six Great Features With The Upcoming Linux 6.6 Kernel

Code:
- The EEVDF scheduler was mainlined as an improvement over the prior CFS scheduler code.
- Intel Shadow Stack finally made it to mainline as a CPU security feature of recent Intel
and AMD processors to help avoid ROP attacks.
- AMD FreeSync Panel Replay as a forthcoming alternative to Panel Self Refresh (PSR) for
  laptop displays.
- The Nouveau user-space API additions needed by the newly-merged NVIDIA "NVK" Vulkan driver
  premiering in Mesa 23.3.
- Intel has continued upstreaming more driver code for enabling Lunar Lake and Arrow Lake processors.
- There has been some Linux 6.6 server performance improvements especially on high core count
AMD EPYC servers as well as Intel Xeon Max / Sapphire Rapids performance.

I've heard rumors that the kernel 6.6.6 will not start unless you put the computer in the middle of a magical circle, and after boot you will hear Steve Ballmer laughing...

There is a good chance this will be the next Long Term Service kernel, but 6.7 just might be ready by the end of the year. We will have to wait and see what develops.

Edit in: FWIW, 6.6.0 has been built and installed, and using the Nvidia-535.113.01 "production branch" driver. WINE, dosemu, VirtualBox, LibreOffice, et al., are all running as they should.

Does it require sacrifice of a few SCSI drives, too?

BTW, a few kernel versions ago some users were reporting they were experiencing seven to eight seconds of black screen after the BIOS check. That is, the computer was booting up, but the information scrolling down the screen couldn't be seen during that 7 or 8 second "blackout."
The boot up sequence appears to be back to "normal" with the 6.6 kernel series.

Thanks, again.
The new 6.6.0 kernel is up and running on Slackware64-current with the old Nvidia Geforce-710 after applying both patches as cwizardone posted above.
