[SOLVED] Some thoughts on Pale Moon vs Firefox

Also you can find a built Pale Moon Slackware package here: http://repo.khronosschoty.org/Slackw...6_64-5_SBo.tgz

Currently, I only have 64 bit packages up; but I plan to have 32 bit ones up soon.

Please refrain from using _SBo tag for publicly hosted packages. See SlackBuids.org FAQ:

Wild, I wonder what is causing it to do that? What are you doing with it? Also what package are you using? Did you build it your self, use alienBOB's or what?

Yes, I use alienbob package. And yes, I will be stripping it back off my systems. If I need more than 4GB of ram to watch a Youtube video or load a kids website, I have no use for it. I have seen paint dry faster..........................

Why not give the package I built a try?

I'm guessing, however, the resources that will impact video memory usage the most will be your ffmpeg package.

Would you mind sharing the details of what ffmpeg package you have installed and also what video you were watching?

I gave yours a try, it was a little more responsive (slightly better) @ playing but still spikes over 100%.

Just tried that link and the video ran the processor at 60-70%.

It actually hit 152% but I couldn't screenshot it because it dropped down. I clocked it a 117%. This is a Pale Moon issue, not specs. Thanks but I'll give up on it now. Its a dead issue in my book.

I'm not convinced it is a Pale Moon issue per se, and still think its likely a ffmpeg / format issue.

Try and play the same videos with mpv using the same ffmpeg.

Could also try the same videos in firefox to see if the issue persists.

That is assuming you are using firefox with ffmpeg.

Thanks for the correction, I forgot that firefox used to use gstreamer instead of ffmpeg and I presume it still does in 14.2?
