Question for you long time users, "darkstar" ; where does that name come from ?

And believe me, I have used a community based distro (Debian) in a professional environment, and I don't want that experience again.
<note: personal opinion follows>
For me, in a professional environment, where you need to have reliable servers, either get one of the "Enterprise" editions (RHEL, Suse) with a support contract, or (if you don't have the budget), use something very stable like Slackware (my preference of course) with a community of very helpful people.

Yep, no problem. I was simply trying to remind people that despite our excellent community surrounding Slackware and the fact that many of the developers frequent these boards and interact with us, Slackware is still a private commercial project and we shouldn't expect access to the Work In Progress in quite the same was as one might get with something truly community based like 'debian unstable'.
Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that there is anything 'wrong' about this.
But what does Darkstar do? In the song, doesn't it crash? Why name a computer after something that crashes?
I propose we hereby communicate to Pat and to the other maintainers who frequent this forum our desire for a new default hostname based on something that won't crash, and, staying within the spirit of grateful dead lyrics, suggest that the new slackware default hostname be:
ripple!
And why we are at it, we could take the "k" out of slackware, since it wouldn't change the pronunciation to just spell it slacware: we are all typing an extra letter for nothing, and thus the name itself contains bloat, contrary to the principles of slac!
Would this make a good candidate for a new poll at lq?

Heh-heh. Thanks for the link. Yes. I've heard about ripple, the low-end alcoholic beverage.
I really do like the Darkstar host name, I think it fits Slackware.

I had thought it must have had something to do with a Space adventure like "Star Wars" and was surprised to learn it was named after a song.
