pidgin don't make any log [solved]

I have a slackware 11.0 box running with kernel 2.6.21.
Today I compiled pidgin 2.0, everything goes well.
when I started the pidgin, it ran well, except won't log any log or save any plugin's change, for example, when I chat MSN,it told me "Logging of this conversation failed."
Then I found it didn't create a ".purple" directory under $HOME, but it should to.
I checked the pidgin.im site, got nothing helpful.
Have I got anything wrong ? Thanx.
Sorry for my poor english.
------------------------------------------------
Finally I found the $HOME directory's ownership was wrong
Be careful next time.

can you create regular files ( e.g. $>touch test. did you check with ls -lA wether there really is no .purple?
absolutely sure, if you enabled logging?

if you have used gaim before, move .gaim to .purple. maybe pidgin still uses .gaim
