modules don't seem to be compiling

i reinstalled slack yesterday, and when making a 2.4.22 kernel i noticed that when i get to the make modules and make modules_install part, it takes only a couple seconds and i see a lot of "nothing to do, leaving directory" or something like that. i remember the last time i compiled a kernel, make modules took a long time. when i get into the newly compiled kernel, there aren't any modules loaded. whats going on? also i'm following the daone's sticky post for compiling. thanks for any help.

I take it you did at some point choose "M" for module. Since you've compiled kernels before then I'll assum you did. Back up your ".config" file and do a make mrproper in the linux directory. Then try again. If still no luck get a fresh kernel and try that.

When doing the way you are only the changes to modules will need to be made and that won't take long.
