Lightbulb KDE Battery Applet; Slackware 12.0


Sony Vaio laptop,


Problem:

Where is the KDE Battery applet?

Anyone know how to get the Function Key combinations to work.
ie. [FN] + [F3] = MUTE

Acpi isn't fully compiled into the stock kernel that comes with Slack 12. I fixed it by grabbing the latest kernel (2.6.22) and compiling acpi in - you could also just recompile the existing kernel.

Up to 12, there was a bareacpi.i kernel option, that is no longer there. If you do plan to grab the latest kernel, I find Alien Bob's wiki page very helpful.

All the power control parts are built as modules. Modprobe "battery", "ac", etc. ("modprobe -l | grep acpi" will give you a list).Then when you launch KDE you should have the applet.
