how do I upgrade from KDE 4.2 to KDE 3.5

I think what you are looking for is System Settings -> Desktop -> Desktop Effects -> All Effects -> {Thumbnail Aside/Taskbar Thumbnails}

To answer the original question (sort of)...

For fresh install
Start with the Slackware-13 set
replace kde folder with the one from 12.2

In the "L" folder :
replace qca with qca from 12.2
replace qt-r1008952 with qt-3.3.8b from 12.2
add qca-tls from 12.2
add arts from 12.2
add dbus-qt3 from 12.2

Setup must be run with the new installer, I used the usb boot.

I agree that kde4 is a steaming pile,
all eye candy with no functionality.
While kde3 was near perfection.

I just did it. It works.

Screenshot here. I've only done it in Virtualbox, but if it works there, I'm sure it'll work on a real machine.

This makes me very happy... I was expecting a lot more trouble than this!

I tried Slack 13 Saturday night. I love most of the new stuff, but I can't stand KDE 4. I was thinking that I might have to build my own version of KDE 3, but now I don't have to.

Do know that there might be problems with some 3.5.10 apps using Python. I've read about some patches but never pursued the topic further.

Do know that Ark does not recognize the new xz compression format for packages. Then again, neither does the KDE 4 version of Ark.

Otherwise 3.5.10 should function well in 13.0.

Thanks , i enjoyed the beauty of kde4, but does not work :-(. For now I prefer the kde3 ...

The released Kde 3.5.10 binaries from Pat V. are missing the QT Dbus Bindings.

This is still the premier forum to follow for installing Kde 3.5.10 on Slackware 13.
