In KDE 3.5 this was called mouseover effects in the panel config box (located in the Appearance section, next to the Show tooltips check box). The line item in kickerrc was in the [buttons] section and called EnableIconZoom. I haven't found the equivalent yet in KDE 4 and the mouseover effects bug me too. Anybody know how to disable the mouseover effects in the panel?
I browsed the KDE forum and there does not seem to have a general setting for showing tooltips.
In this KDE forum thread, it's discussed how to disable tooltips for some applications:
Quote:
Unfortunately they are under the control of the application that shows them. For Konqueror/Dolphin's tooltips, open Dolphin > Settings > Configure Dolphin > General. Uncheck "Show tooltips"
Quote:
In taskbar can be disabled by right clicking taskbar > settings > show tooltips
There is a KDE bug report opened regarding tooltips in the panel or the desktop: bug 178578
For fresh install
Start with the Slackware-13 set
replace kde folder with the one from 12.2
In the "L" folder :
replace qca with qca from 12.2
replace qt-r1008952 with qt-3.3.8b from 12.2
add qca-tls from 12.2
add arts from 12.2
add dbus-qt3 from 12.2
Setup must be run with the new installer, I used the usb boot.
I agree that kde4 is a steaming pile,
all eye candy with no functionality.
While kde3 was near perfection.

I just did it. It works.
Screenshot here. I've only done it in Virtualbox, but if it works there, I'm sure it'll work on a real machine.
This makes me very happy... I was expecting a lot more trouble than this!
I tried Slack 13 Saturday night. I love most of the new stuff, but I can't stand KDE 4. I was thinking that I might have to build my own version of KDE 3, but now I don't have to.
