You really love to leave information out of your posts. It's been requested time and again for you to provide us with more information.
What are you trying to do? Take an already existing iso and make it bootable? Take a directory structure from your harddrive and burn that to a disc? Come on, give us more info in your posts!
I want to be able to create a boot sector on a CD or DVD because every once in a while, I come across operating systems via the internet that can be burned to a CD or DVD, but DON'T include a boot sector (yes, I sometimes like to try out alternative operating systems). So what software is available that would do that (I currently use Slackware 14.1, the 64 bit version)?
I want to be able to create a boot sector on a CD or DVD because every once in a while, I come across operating systems via the internet that can be burned to a CD or DVD, but DON'T include a boot sector ...
It has been a while since I tried any of them, so unfortunately my imperfect memory has failed to remember which ones - but I do remember it happening, and besides, I have been sorely tempted to try to create one of my own.
So your post is about a problem you only vaguely remember having? Why don't you just wait until you want to try it again, then do your best to figure it out yourself, and then post here about specific problems that you can't figure out? That's how these things are supposed to work.
I guess I should have been more specific by saying that what I am looking for is a way to create a custom boot sector for DVDs. Sorry for the confusion.
what I am looking for is a way to create a custom boot sector for DVDs.
I still do not get what you mean and want. Could you please be a little more practical:
Q1 What do you call a custom boot sector for DVD? Assuming that you refer to the El Torito specification, what customization do you want?
Q2 Why do you need it?
Q3 What do you want to do with this bootable DVD?
