several noobie questions

1)

I am using RH 7.1 linux and i get a prompt to select 2 different versions of linux on startup 1 fails on startup when it cant find multiple cpu's. How can i get it to just automatically load into the other one?

the 2 choices I get are

linux
linux up

linux up is the one that works.

2)

When I get into enlightenment about 15 windows open up. How do i stop that?

3)

How can I modify an enlightenment theme to include my own background pic?

thx

I believe that I can help you with question no.1. You will have to edit your lilo.conf file. It's located in the /etc directory. Look for a line that begins with default=. After that will be the name of the image that boots automatically. In this case, it is linux. Change it to linux up. If there is no line with default= in it, add a line to the beginning of the file that says default=linux up. Then run the command /sbin/lilo. You will have to do all of this as root.

what kind of windows are opening up in enlightenment? there are a few bugs in the epplet libraries that can cause them to multiply... but those aren't really windows. there's also a few problems with the kde layers kfm usually - enlightenment wasn't really made to work with k.

In my old version of enlightenment, there is a button in the upper left corner of the window and when you click on it you get a drop down menu. See if yours has that. If it does, see if there is an option called Remember. Select it and you'll get a window that has options. One of them is to start the application when enlightenment starts up. Deselect it and deselect all the other options and exit the window by clicking on apply or ok. Do this to all the windows. Then exit enlightenment and restart it. I hope this helps.

You may be able to close all the windows, set up the desktop the way you want it with whatever you want coming up and then type the magic words

/usr/bin/save-session

or where ever it is on your system

this should bring X up with the settings you saved every time it starts X.
