Java programming in linux

I am having troubles getting to program java in linux. I want to install the java runtime environment, but I keep getting a message that says that i have no access to that file. I have tried both as a normal user and as root.

I just need to do some java programming (for school) so if anyone else has a sollution to how i can solve this problem, then i would be thankful.

Peace,
Heming

Geez acid_kewpie, I'm a newbie, you don't have to be so mean. I can understand when things are said, you don't have to be mean about it.

i presdume you simply haven't made the jre-blah.bin file executable...

chmod +x jre-blah.bin
jre-blah.bin

however the JRE is not for programming, just for USING java programs, you need the java SDK (standard development kit) for that
