Cannon has made a driver for these printers, they even have released the source code (!):
Installing with SUSE is pretty straightforward. To install all the drivers at once open a browser tab and go to
ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/
On the FTP file list select these three packages
bjfilter-common-2.50-2.i386.rpm
bjfilter-pixusip4100-lprng-2.50-2.i386.rpm
bjfilter-pixusip4100-2.50-2.i386.rpm
right click and on the context menu choose "install package".
Yast will pop up and install them and the needed extra software (if any).
Next you need to install CUPS
To setup your printer using CUPS under KDE open the control center > peripherals > printers. Gnome also has a frontend to cups in it's config center.
It's very easy and wizard based, just select "local printer", the type of printer and try to print a test page. Canon states that this driver works as good as the Win drivers.
There are also guides:
guidepixusip3100-2.50-2.tar.gz
And some more documentation, I don't know which is the right one.
The numbering does not correspond to the exact printer type, so don't get confused if it is ip3100, this only mean that this driver can be used by any Cannon printer until ip3100 (and the same for the rest).
If you get the printer running, it would be nice if you wrote a hardware review, so that more people can take advantage
NOTE: I could have put direct links to the files, but the method shown above comes more handy, as if there is any dependency among the packages Yast will not complain.
Another way to do it is downloading them to a directory, open a file browser and do the same as I wrote above.
