Can not log in as root user

I forgot set root ID when installing,so I can not log in as root user.How can I fix the problem?Thanks.

Set root id? What? Or are you referring to root's password?

Boot with a rescue cd or floppy, change root's password that way.

Apparently from this thread, that didn't work. What you'll want to do then, is to restart the system. When you're at the "boot:" prompt, type in:

Code:

linux 1

This will put the system in Single-user mode and you'll be logged in as root. Type the passwd command to change the password.
