Slack 10.1 and ipw2200

I have just about given up. I've loaded the firmware into usr/lib/hotplug/firmware, i can modprobe ipw2200. My kernel has the hotplug and wireless compiled in correctly. After loading the module, if i check /var/log/messages it says it has detected the intel wireless BG card etc etc. If I do an ifconfig all I get is loopback and eth0. Please tell me if I'm missing something rediculously obvious.

Isn't the eth0 the interface for your wireless card? They seem to switch a bit per driver and I've seen a few people who had it on eth0. If you're not sure try "iwconfig" that should list it.

If I do a iwconfig it states that eth0 has no wireless extensions.

Well I figured it out. Did a dmesg | grep ipw2200 and noticed the firmware was not loading. Something wrong with the hotplug script, even though I have the firmware in the right place. Did a modprobe firmware_class and then modprobe ipw2200 and we are good to go.

I'm having a similar problem, but loading firmware_class first doesn't help me. I have more info posted at http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=296533

any ideas?

Thanks,

Matt
