ATI driver to FIREGL T2

Hi.

I'm trying to install the driver on Debian Sarge, on a Thinkpad T41p (2366-GEG
if you were wondering).
I've been sitting here for a while trying to setup the 3D driver for the FIREGL T2 by using the information from ATI Linux driver and Debian GNU/Linux on IBM T41P.
I made the driver work for a little while, until I restarted the machine to see if it really worked.
Alas the succsess seems like a mirage at this point.

Now that I try a "modprobe fglrx" I get "FATAL: Error inserting fglrx (/lib/modules/2.6.9/misc/fglrx.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)"
Which might be the result of something in the kernel... (I'm not that good in compiling a kernel ).

Hope someone can help with some insight in this matter.
