edit kicker

hi,

id like to changed the kicker button. using mandrake 10.1 community
right now i have the mandrake star, id like to change it to either the kde icon or to another icon.

ive googled and did a search here, came up with nothing.

i tried going to /usr/share/icons and /usr/share/icons/mini and the large icons
and i replaced the mandrake.png with the kde kicker button(which i renamed mandrake.png)
but that didn't do anything

yep thats what im trying to do

ok there is no directory: /usr/local/kde/share/icons
what hes talking about is in /usr/share/icons

i looked there and replaced all the "mandrake star" icons i could find with kde ones (kept the name the same)

but it still doesnt work

whats weird is that the icon set that im using, the go.png is NOT the mandrake star thingy, but thats what kde uses.

Look in your "/home/<username>/.kde/share/icons" folder. THAT is where your personal icons settings are saved. (Note: The .kde folder is hidden -- it has the "." at the beginning.)

I replaced the following icons in folder >> /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps (for normal kicker size).

desktop-mdk.png
menuk-mdk.png

To match my theme and they stick.

Mandrake uses the crystalsvg theme as default and will override your personal icons for the above two applications.

The new icons have to be copied over as root (of course). However, this sets these icons globablly, so despite other users choice in icon theme, they are going to see the ones I copied over to that folder.

This change also gets overwritten every once in a while when Mandrake update updates certain files.

Regards,
Crispus

How confusing, so far my searches have come up with this:
- supposedly Mandrake changes the default menu icon name from kmenu.png to menuk-mdk.png.
-I also found something saying Mandrake gets the default menu icon from the crystalsvg theme.
(don't know if above two points are true, found it googling)
-I searched for the icons in question
Code:
Password:
[root@x1-6-00-0a-e6-91-be-32 don]# locate *kmenu.png
warning: locate: warning: database /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db' is more than 8 days old
/usr/share/doc/HTML/en/common/kmenu.png
/usr/share/doc/HTML/en_GB/common/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/64x64/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/16x16/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/32x32/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kdeclassic/48x48/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kids/16x16/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kids/22x22/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kids/32x32/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kids/48x48/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/kids/64x64/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/slick/16x16/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/slick/32x32/apps/kmenu.png
/usr/share/icons/slick/48x48/apps/kmenu.png
[root@x1-6-00-0a-e6-91-be-32 don]# locate *menuk-mdk.png
warning: locate: warning: database /var/lib/slocate/slocate.db' is more than 8 days old
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/128x128/apps/menuk-mdk.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/apps/menuk-mdk.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/apps/menuk-mdk.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/apps/menuk-mdk.png
/usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/64x64/apps/menuk-mdk.png
[root@x1-6-00-0a-e6-91-be-32 don]#
- then moved menuk-mdk.png's out of the crystal theme and renamed the icons apropriatly from the slick theme and moved them into the respective icon size folders in crystalsvg, and restarted session after reselecting the crystalsvg theme in kde look and feel.
- no change!

Padma,
I looked for /home/<username>/.kde/share/icons, and I have no icon folder in /home/<username>/.kde/share/
- I am now getting interested, any more suggestions?

crispus,
I only changed my menuk-mdk.png icons.

What is the desktop-mdk.png for. Is that the one to open kicker menu?

No desktop one is for minimizing all of your open apps and returning to your desktop. This one and menuk-mdk are always overwritten by Mandrake's use of the Crystal theme regardless of what theme you pick in Look 'n' Feel.
