New Layout

As you may have noticed I just changed the forums to use the new proposed layout. I made quite a few changes based on the feedback I got in a previous thread. There is now a bar across the top with text pseudo-buttons and the LQ logo has been resized so that no scrolling should be needed for people with 800x600. I've noticed that a hard refresh is needed in some browsers to get the new logo. I'll likely make a few tweaks over the next day or so, but I really want your feedback on this. I am still open to suggestions and want to make sure that any issues anyone may have are addressed. Thanks.

When I click on Linux Forums the page only loads the first two or three frames (the one with Welcome Back, Chinaman and Search Linuxquestions.org); then after a very long time (over 3 mniutes) the remainder of the page loads. Once it does load the only button I get is the GO button next to the text Search Linuxquestions.org. I also can't load buttons on the top of the page or at the bottom of the posts in the threads (from images.linuxquestions.org) still.

My ISP has checked and it doesn't seem to be them. I don't have this problem loading images from other web sites.

Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem loading images.

I'm not seeing the LQ logo in the top left. If I right click on the area and say "View Image" I get:
"... /questions/images/LinuxQuestions.gif not found ..."

It's 10:39pm Central time.

Chinaman, there are less buttons now, which should help your situation, but it seems you are still unable to get to the image server. Let me look into a few things on my end.

itsjustme, I cannot imagine why that is happening. Did you try a shift-refresh? Is this happening to anyone else?

i do very much like the new top button-bar , its much nicer and easier to find things with (as opposed to looking in that tangled mess of those old button thingies all thrown into the corner).. as well as it looks more clean now to

good work jeremy

I really like the button bar at the top. But, the page now looks kindda cluttered. You know, the LQ logo, the ad, the button bar, the Main Menu on the right, another ad, Forum Sponsors, it looks cluttered.

I must point out that I have nothing against the new layout and it sure is not an eyesore. Maybe cluttered is not the right word. Just thought I should mention it.

I'd like to thank you for maintaining LQ, it's been very useful to me in learning Linux.

However, as a visually handicapped user, I'd suggest that you make the buttons a bit bigger, and maybe lose the graphic on the buttons in favor of a bigger font size. I always find myself leaning in to the screen to see what the buttons are.

The font size in most other places is fine. i use 800 x 600 rez, which seems to work OK with the existing layout.

I'm sure you have many members with poor vision who would be helped by the above changes.

Jeremy,

Is the LQ logo on the same server as the buttons? Cause I'm using a proxy server now, my d/l speed is high, and I can get the logo but no buttons with the proxy.

The more I spend time with this layout, the more I begin to like it. It is great and it's unbelievable how you have been able to incorporate the users ideas into LQ.

Great going
