GUI linux ????!!!!

hi

before asking my question i must tell u that i am a novice in linux, so get ready to expect some stupid questions.

i have recently installed Red Hat Linux 9 on my system. after rebooting, it prompts me for a login name in which i entered "root". after a successfull login, command prompts appears.

i wud like to know how can to switch to GUI linux?
have i skipped some essential components during linux installation?!?!?!

plz help

You may have missed some packages that give you a graphical login but try typing:
init 5

Hi Jags83,

As David said U might have skipped the X server(Graphical Server) config files.

If U have installed X Server and have not started it. Try doing a 'Startx' in the command Prompt.

If U have already started X Server, bu U R currenly in a Command Prompt,
try pressing 'Ctrl + Alt + 7', this will take U to the Graphical Virtual Terminal.
