Recommended network card?

I bought a D-Link DI-624+ router and DWL-G520+ network card. I've had no luck getting the G520+ to work in Linux (works fine in Windows). Can anybody recommend another network card that I can use with Linux?

I've found Realtek RTL8139 based cards work a treat - and are very cheap too. :-)

Do you have a link for a card that uses that chipset?

What's that an 8139 with a wireless front end?

I use that chipset for my wired cards - well cool!

netgear wg311 v1 (only get version 1... if the box is unlabeled, it is a version 1)

works like a charm... it isn't hard to setup either, check out my hcl entry

check out the hcl for other linux-compatible cards, too, but in my experience, netgears have been the most-linux friendly cards out there

Why only v1? I could not find v1 and I had to settle for v2.

Cheers

uhoh, v2 is declared incompatible (as of now) with linux because it uses an unsupported texas instruments chip

the v1 uses the atheros chipset, which the madwifi drivers can handle

another well-supported chipset is the prism chipset (other netgears and some linksys)

Great! (can you pick up the sarcasm?) lol Thanks, I will have to return it and buy a new one, no prob, thanks for the info!

*gets in car and drives irratically towards local Circuit City*

PS: Where can I get the madwifi drivers? Sourgeforce (sourceforge?, I am tired lol) took all the old and present versions down.

check out this page: http://www.linuxquestions.org/hcl/sh...hp?product=624

you will have to get the madwifi drivers off cvs like so:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/madwifi login (leave password blank)
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/madwifi co madwifi

this will create a madwifi directory to play with

pretty much, ya; atheros is extremely well-supported with even these "pre-production" release drivers; hell, they've vastly outperformed any commercially distributed drivers i've seen; that and the fact that the linux kernel is active in maintaining the cards function instead of being passive like the windows kernel

you should check this page for network card/chipset combinations:
http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html.gz

all i know is that if i get a laptop, i will be buying a netgear 511T right away

the hcl is also a good place to see how users have fared in getting these cards running

I use an Orinoco Silver card. To get into details, its the WaveLan and the next gen after that. They work perfect with Mandrake 9.2 Kernel 2.4.22mdk. Good luck!
